AI error - help !

Freehand 10 docs to Illustrator to eps to Indesign to pdf!!

I'm exporting freehand 10 docs to ai (illustrator 7.x). When opening in Illustr, it gives me error message: "can't open the illustration. illustration contains illegal or misplaced operator. offending operator: m. context: O XR 1 XR 1636...... etc etc".

I am busy converting 3 sets of 3 each, i.e. 9 docs from freehand to ai files. The first 2 sets (3 each) are working fine. The last three, basically the same, do not work. Don't understand why not, the others worked. Maybe a fault in the images? The posters' design is the same, just different colours and pics here and there.

Please help, i've read up on it, but no helpful answers!:(

Are you saving the freehand as a .eps then just opening in illustrator? That's what I normally do, and by your description it doesn't sound like that's what you are doing. Worth trying if you haven't already to see if it works?

Thanks for your advice, crazycatlady!! :) I'm working in Indesign, but lately have had to convert old freehand 10 docs to indesign, but going around it the looong way! Thanks, it really helps a lot, make things really easier.
