I've done basic auto batching before but I've never tried to do something like i am asking here. I have to add the style # and color code of each photo to the image. The files are all named with the style # and color code EX 21020_050. So my question, is there a way to automate adding the file name to the image or do i have to add it to each image individually? i have 400+ images i need to do this too for so if i can automate this it would be amazing!

I have not done this in quite the way you need before... so not sure. (and when I had done it before it was in photoshop 7...)

thanks audentia but that doesn't really help me. I know how to setup the action but the thing that has me stuck is adding the file name to the image. if i can figure out a way to do that it would save me tons of boring work :D

You just need to rename a batch of files by appending a code to the name? I use (circa 1998) Norton Navigator for that. Select files, File/Rename, enter: *new_code.*

Done. Can do the same thing in DOS.

Wait a sec... are you working on the vitamin enriched platform?

Are all your files the same size?

Why I ask because is you can you Photoshop's Contact Sheet II. The name would be below the image and not on it. You set up the document size you want for a single image and then in the thumbnails you use Columns:1 and Rows: 1. Then you just create a action using that. You have to play with the order a little bit and if you do save or save as, but that is a close as I can think of.

Oh. Sokay. Check out IrfanView. It's packed with batching commands, including text overlay which allows you to choose position, colour, font, alignment-- and you create a placeholder caption with codes like $F for filename, $D for date, etc. etc.

Great all-around image utility. And still FREE!
