Hey guys! I want to design graphics real bad, i just need some solid resources. I would like to get some recommendations from some seasoned designers on what learning material i should invest in. I do have specific interests.

1. A book on how to make web graphics such as footers, headers, buttons, ebook covers, etc.
2. A book on how to make logos for the web and print.
3. A book on how to make comic book characters for the web, i believe adobe illustrator is needed for this?

I learn best by seeing examples with anaylsis on how they were done. If you know any good books in these fields then just post a title and author name. Thanks!

I did some research, and found out the most designers use the adobe products such as photo shop, and illustrator. Would i be off better purchasing books on techniques using these software programs or just boks about designing in general? Thanks.

Hea dude, it depends on what you want to design, For web, youl need HTML knowledge and a good program is adbobe dreamweaver, but its a personal like rather then "you have to use this program".

For vector drawing i use illustrator and then if i want to colour il use photoshop, but again its a personal like for the program.

But to be honest if you are just into 1 area of design, then research that area and learn as much as you can.

The best place to start is your local library.
Also, amazon has a search feature to find what your looking for.

Jim Krause has a series of books you should be able to find on Amazon, they are slightly expensive but I have found them to be excellent reference points and also if you are stuck for ideas, a quick flip through one of his books and the juices begin to flow again.

I know this is going to sound horrible coming from a GD but ... dummies guides (Illustrator for Dummies etc ...) honestly if you want to learn about your newly aquired programs I swear by these books. They contain every possible hiccup you might encounter when first begining to use the programs. Failing that ... take yourself off to a book shop one day, sit and go through the variety of books they have and go with whatever takes your fancy. GD books are something designers are ALWAYS aquiring for reasons of inspiration, interest or (if like me) can't help but buy a book before leaveing a book shop ... what can I say ... It's addictive :)

Good Luck :D

I don't have any specific books but I would study color, composition and typography before you even look at a computer.
