hi,
how do i import a table from excel to indesign so that if i change the excel file on excel, indesign would refresh the data imported from excel?
i tried using "place" command and this works but i change anything on excel, the changes wont be updated on indesign!
any kind of help is appreciated!
regards,

InDeisgn won't preserve a dynamic link across the two files. You can by going to Preferences>Type and select Create Link when placing text and spreadsheets.
The file appears in the links panel in indesign.
But as soon as you update it it loses any formatting you have applied in Indesign. And that's not good.
If you want to do this you have to look at 3rd party plugins and scripts, none of which I ever really use too often so I can't recommend any.
Possibly InData? http://www.emsoftware.com/products/indata/

thanks eugenetyson it would be nice if i find a freeware plugin around but ive just checked and most of them are commercial plugins. :-(

Why don't you try looking at this from the data merge angle? You could set your InDesign file up and then use the merge to update data and keep the formatting maybe?
