As a recent convert to InDesign CS2, I am trying to determine the most efficient way to do task that are second nature to me in QXpress. I am wondering if anyone has an easier solution for importing figures and illustrations into a multi-page document.

Right now, I am creating a table with 1 header, 1 body row, & 1 footer. I type the title of the chart into my header bar. Import the image (ai. or .eps) into the body row, and then put any footnotes in the footer bar.

This process just seems cumbersome because when import the image, it takes some tweaking to get everything to fit right. You have to use the fit feature to fix the fact that your table disappears. Sometime when it fits, it seems like it's not as tight as it could be. I am just wondering if there is a better way? Maybe not importing the image into the cell of the table, but instead putting it in a picture box?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

if it were me i would ditch the table all together. i'm not a big fan of the way tables work in InDesign. as you said, it seems kinda cumbersome.

You could put the picture into the text as an anchored object (on its own empty line), then set paragraph styles for the title and footnotes.

It'll take a little experimenting to figure out the paragraph style for the anchored object line, but once it's set up you should be fine.

CS3 adds object styles, where you can set things like text wrap.
