In illustrator CS3 how do I change the color of a rollover button (bevel blue inset mouse down)? When I select it and look at gradient, and change the colors, it changes just the outside. I need to change the inside color.

My guess is it may be a blend. Use the white arrow and try selecting the central color. Change that and see if your blend changes.

Tried that, it does not work.

Is the inner shape locked? Un-collapse all your layers and see is the inner shape is locked, hence when you select it it just selects the back shape.

I will try it. Thank you.

If you pull that button up yourself you can see. It is not locked or in a separate layer, bummer.

Are you just changing the stroke color?

Kinda hard to tell what you are having issues with when you can't see whats going on. Can you post an image please? :)

Plus, your creating various buttons (for web?) In Illustrator?? What do you mean by "button down state"???

Look at it myself? I don't have the file! :p

I pulled up the panel, but I didn't see a button named "bevel blue inset mouse down".

Object, graphic style libraries, buttons and rollovers

Meh, I am going to be of no help... I create all my own styles and avoid those for this very reason. Sorry.

Yeah, I just figured that out. I was over at Symbols > Symbol Library Dropdown > Web buttons and bars. I'll take a look, but I'm fairly sure if Ckret can't figure it out, it's beyond me.

I figured it out...

Open your "Appearance" (Window > Appearance) pallet, select the fill and go to town.

Oh!

Window > Appearance

Select the button on the page, click on the first appearance fill (it has no stroke), then change the colors in the gradient panel.

I figured you would, you're much more the Illy jockey than I.

I remember sitting in an Adobe seminar when appearances were added to Illy, and watching the guy build a full 8-lane Interstate complete with lane striping, shoulders and median grass, on one path.

There were audible gasps when he "re-routed" the highway by changing the curves with one bezier handle! :D

What I'm doing is creating one from the original in my color. I did it once before years ago, but I just remember how I did it.

Yeah, I remember first seeing the appearance pallet and what i can do for the first time as well. First thing I thought of was how much of a PITA it was going to make prepress work. And sure enough not even a month later I got the worst job in the world!

I owned a printing company for 22 years, and took off 5 years to do some flying and other things. I'm starting to play around with some layout for some friends. It is fun to play with, for a while.

I still remember the first sign/logo I received created with Appearances.
It happened not one week after Urstwile posted something about it here and I remembered thinking, 'well that will be one heluva mess.'
It was.
We usually allow 30 minutes file prep. This one took 4x that to restack properly and pull traps.

When I do 2 color job or spot colors, I set traps as I go. working for a long time with "graphic artist" I spent most of my time work their file for output to negs. They know how to design, but most don't know much about the print process.

^No kidding, huh.
Actually I was talking about cut vinyl which is an even more arcane skill.

Or have multiple 4 color photos, and you have to strip each one! Those days are long gone. It is a wonder we were able to get anything to press. If you had 5 photos and on the press 4 line up and the 5th one didn't. I usually fired the stripper after the 10th time.

I found out how to change the colors of stock graphic styles, ext. Duh. If you go to appearance window, it is all there.
