Optical Nerve - hnd graded Unit 2009

Optical Nerve is a exhibition to show the crossover in 1960's op art, fashion and design. In this finished project i used a combination of my own pattern designs mixed with the design taken from some of my own vintage clothing, you will be able to see the flower pattern around the edges of the posters etc, this was from a patterned shirt i scanned in and editted using photoshop. the main body text/logo - optical nerve came through cuttting out letter shapes with foam board and taking photographs of the finished logo layout, the photograph was then edited in photoshop and illustrator also.

:)

i do have other pieces to add to this like postcards, and press and private invites, i will take some photo's and show you the finished work soon

I love that last one on the right. That is a poster and a half. I'm not sure it represents what you're shooting for but it looks great.

The Optical Nerve writing seems to come from some other, more juvenile, place, and lacks the professional quality that i like so much in the rest of the images. The small 'The' atop Design Museum jolts me a bit, but i don't know why exactly. Too small perhaps.

So... is it called "Optic Nerve, The Design Museum"? I agree with Roth, the lettering for optic nerve doesn't fit in with the rest of the layout.

I read it as Ortical Nerve

Just curious. If you cover up the left poster and look at the right on its own-- do you still feel this way about the one on the right?

>>Optical Nerve is a exhibition to show the crossover in 1960's op art, fashion and design<<

I wouldn't have got that on first glance. The little text tag 'Art, Fashion and Design in the 1060's' -- it's like any piece of abstract fine art, that without the 'title' acting as a tag to the message, I wouldn't have made any connection to something tangible.

And that line is set so small and so ambiguous-- for me, it just looks like an ad for the Design Museum itself, not a specific show.

Well, had I taken the time to read his brief I would have see that. I would probably connect that tag line with the title of the show. And probably add more copy to explain that it's a show at the museum.

just a small point, you'll never be able to read that billboard if its on any sort of highway :D

^That's actually a big point.
I can't read it here sitting still.

That's a good point. And i can't figure out why. Ironically when you cover the right the left looks a lot better.

Would it not have been better to have posted this before you handed in your unit so you could consider the critiques?

I like them however :P I just handed in my HNC graded unit ;)

bad font for optical nerve....I almost would have made a dense pantone, which may have played well with the background grpahics
