I think you should simplify your caps more. But that's just my personal style.

Actually in the process of designing my own as well. I think you need some hierarchy in your type. The 'texture' the blocks of copy have are competing with the imagery.

All caps is making this irritating to read.

watch your kerning and leading, especially the edges. if you want it to look like a block, the last lines in each block of text need to be addressed. right now the line length appears to be shorter than the rest of the text.

That effort leaves me thinking the graphic design program over at San Jose State U is one of the lamest in the country.

Why did you get lazy on the mortarboards? The boring background established a light source bottom right. The light/shadow of the mortarboards are completely different. You got lazy, and simply used the same image over and over again rotated and scaled. And in doing so, cheapened the whole piece. Is that what you've been taught? All caps in those closely related sans killed any chance of type dynamics.

Is this graphic really about a celebration? This whole thing is just cheap, flat and lifeless.

Negative enough for you??

I concur with the all caps being hard to read and the light source being off on the mortarboards according to the background light source.

The tassels look like a standard Illustrator brush, and they're cut off in the middle. Also, have you tried printing this to see how the white text and gradients look on paper?
