I am getting to where I am doing more freelance lately, and I want to come up with a logo to go along with this freelance business. I have it narrowed down to these ideas. Any thoughts?

in the first 4, they all have elements that would be lost at a smaller scale.
the 5th one is good, I like it.
None seem to sit right; looks like a forced attempt to run the gs together. However I agree the 'e' is the best, but all of a sudden the name swaps from a different font to the logo, and your ratios are out. You might be better off taking the logo/name ratio of 'b' and apply something similar to 'e'.

e is looking ok. however, the sharp points that are coming off of the g are really distracting and disrupt the flow.

+1. I choose (e) as well but agree with 'simplicity' that there is a mismatch, 'gehling graphics' does not compliment the logo. I however like the logo and wouldn't touch the sharp points at all, just change the descriptive font to something more structural as the logo ie not so flowy.

What is that G doing to that other G? heh
I like 1, but it's pretty familiar looking for some reason.
I don't get the concept of the shield shape at all.
I like the last ones simplicity, but the smaller font is not a good choice.
What did you have for other concepts?

#1 probably reminds you of the GE logo because of the circle with the double line.

That too...but more due to the treatment of the H, I and P. Or maybe both.

Do you have a website?
I can't comment on the logo untill I know what part of graphic design you specialize in and when I see some of your work.

Thanks for the feedback. I will take things into consideration and see what I can do to improve, though it may spawn ideas for completely different take.
I was personally leaning toward "A". I did have the same sense of familiarity also though... not sure if that is good or bad. It was reminding me of "hoover" though, as opposed to "ge".
I'll try to get back in the next couple days with updates.
Again, thanks to all.

I like that the g's flowing into each other almost looks like a pair of glasses & an ear.
However, I think you need to use a different font. The style of the font used conflicts with the overall flow of the design. The two don't work together. I would play with the stroke more and start with a font but alter the fonts for better graphic (the g's dont' need to be super obvious)

I didn't notice them at all, I was trying to figure out what 'uag' had to do with Gehling Graphics :o

I find the 2 'g's confusing. Maybe it's because the first 'g' is at an awkward angle to the second. Regardless, I don't find the resulting shape overly aesthetically pleasing.
The g's just look like poor typography.

I read it as uag. Coming from someone who knows nothing about international soccer, it looks like a soccer badge that is normally on the left breast of the jersey.
E is the strongest, but still lacks recognition.

First thing I read was vag. You might want to take that into consideration.
My mind is in the gutter though. But who is to say that your potential clients minds aren't in the gutter either?

Well it's been about a little bit since I first posted this. Thank you all for the feed back. Below are a couple of alternatives I re-worked. I've tried to put more emphasis on the name rather than the icon and took into account the other suggestions. Right now I am more partial to a or b.

Your centre graphic (the two g's) get lost on A and B even at this size... which is not as small as a business card. So I would worry about that. However A is better than b in terms of font choice.
C has the issue that gehling graphics will be lost when smaller as well. What about trying C with the icon large and gehling graphics stacked next to it on the right?
This would also give you the flexibility to use either just the name or just the icon or all together as you prefer.
I do still worry that the double line around it is a bit too GE. What does it look like with this line and the g's bleeding off?

I prefer A and B, but still am not overly fond of the confusing double G logo you're working with. As I and others have said, the Gs aren't instantly recognisable (and can be mistaken for 'uag' or, worse, 'vag'), so I'd really consider scrapping that idea altogether and re-thinking the use of a symbol.
I'd be keen to see a selection of different sketches that explore the interlocking of the 2 letters, not just the same symbol placed in different surroundings.

Should a Graphic Designers logo resemble their work?
I only got the GG when I had a read of the posts. The foist G is looking like ua.
But i can see that your hooked on the design, Take a break for a few days and then come back to it. Look at it with fresh eyes.

Should a Graphic Designers logo resemble their work?
Not resemble but reflect. If he has a traditional style in his work, should he use a modern logo?
If he uses a limited color palette in his work, should he use many bright colors in his logo?
Graphic designers can't design logos effectively for clients until they research their businesses fully.
Sure it may be a good logo but does it reflect who he is and what he does?

you seem very stuck on the 2 g's together. Although you've changed the words & fonts around them, they have yet to be altered. And almost all of the comments in this thread are in regards to how the g's look. Don't get married to one idea, because right now you are stuck and swimming in circles - and until you address that element the rest of the design doesn't matter.
