I'm trying to design a CD cover and have a free font called Base 02. I want to get a black background that has white scratches through it. Is there an effect you can use to do this with (I don't have photoshop, though; I have photoimpact and am too cheap to get anything else right now)? Or maybe a website where I can download a background like this? Does anybody even know what I'm talking about?!?

Dont' know anything about Photoimpact, but in Photoshop, one way is to use 'grunge' brushes. Essentially, they are brushes that look like scratches.

Search our Resources forum, or do a Google search for 'grunge brushes.'

Word of advice: get Photoshop. You won't regret it.

And welcome to the forum!

Thanks. I'll think about photoshop, but with the budget of a 16 year old, it might not be possible. How much does it usually sell for?

Photoshop is a little pricey... maybe you could get a student version?

welcome to the forum!

I haven't lost my mind... it's backed up on disk somewhere.

Le Petit Infante Amatuere: do you have a scanner? Nothin' beats beating type by hand. Take your laser prints, wrinkle, press and pull slightly-destickified tape on them... lots of fun options--- then just rescan. Type abuse-- so much fun! And everyone's doing it!

Hey, my first post. A hi to everybody.

Why not do it for real? A black photocopy scratched with a compass point should do it, as photocopier toner is pretty soft. Scan it back in and go mental in Photoshop.

Hey another place to check out are stock photo sites.. you could try morguefile and istockphoto...morguefile has free downloads for high res pictures and istockphoto is pretty cheap .. like 10 bucks for a lot of pics. if you want. and I totally agree with everyone else.. if you want to go into design, definately get introduced to Photoshop somehow or another. Good luck!! http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/hop.gif

MonotoneLime, you might not want to be creating the type in your posts the way you did. On some of the skins, it shows up as solid black lines that you have to 'swipe' over to read.

PrintDriver is a grande format digital print dude. His advice/opinions may not apply to the 4color/offset/web world of printing
