Hello, I have been doing GD for many years now but am very VERY new to the business side of things and very new to this forum. I could really use the help of all of you out there that have been doing this for a while. I have come up with a few questions and any help you could provide would be absolutely wonderful and if you have any advise that doesn't pertain to one of the questions.........post it anyway, I wont be mad atcha, I can use all the advise I can get. Thank you in advance. I have only been a member of this forum for one day now but I have learned more in that one day then in a hole month of searching the freakin internet. You guys are great, keep up the great work.

how do you keep clients from just taking the initial concept image, before revisions are made, without paying you if you don't get payment in advance.

should you get payment in advance.

what is the best way of getting the final product to the client ie. cd format, printed, emailed, or all of the above.

should I go threw the trouble registering my images with the copywrite office.

What all should I charge for: I want to charge for the initial image that is created in general and charge extra for the source file of the image if the client wants to take it somewhere else and get it altered or whatever. is this a good idea and do I need to consider any other charges.

what can I do with the copywrited image for another company anyway, why not give the client full copy write rights

what do you do if the the clients just says up yours I'm not paying, it would cost to much to go to court over a 50 to 60 dollar design job.

explain the process of the whole thing, ie - they hire you, what then, in relatively detailed terms.

what is the best contract to use and were can I get it - I generally work with logo creation.

Here is my process of design for clients: I create 3 initial concepts and the client chooses the one they like the best. They then get 3 revisions of the initial concept they chose. is the a good plan.

thanks again

If it wasn't for the medication im on.....I would probably be addicted to drugs

One word for you:
CONTRACT
go to a book store and look for gd contracts or go to Amazon.

1/2 down 1/2 done is a good way to get paid. Or 1/3 on submittal of concept, 1/3 on submittal of proof, and 1/3 when complete.

file format - whatever the client needs.

Copyright is sticky. Especially when you use rights managed or royalty free images that aren't yours. Read up on copyright law as pertains to the GD industry. Check out www.gag.org. They have a link in there (not saying you have to join em, their site is useful).

D-Frag - go into detail, this one's too much for me.
