Ok here is my situation. I have a small graphics company I started up. I currently pay my printer I go to about 200 bucks for UV coated 110 weight 4x6 flyers. That is for 5 thousand of them. Now I'm trying to figure out if I can do somthin glike this on a small printer. Here are the specs I need:

I need the printer to be able to do:

Full color
Double Sided
be able to take 110 weights
Have very good quality
be able to print at quick speed (kinda important)
except 11x17

I don't know what do you guys use for your small studios? I want to be able to get small jobs done with this. My budget is less then $1000 ANy help would be great thanks

PS. someone told me about the Tektronix Phaser 780 Color laser any thoughts on that printer?

I just bought a Tektronix Phaser 780 off ebay for $800. it is a full sized color laser (up to 13x19) and runs almost any stock you can think of. the only draw back is that it is not a two sided printer. Although I print color one side and black on the back and it works for me most of the time. It isn't the quickest printer in the world but it beats the hell out of a inkjet! I love it. I run small print jobs for my customers... BC, Letterhead, Enve. just about anything...

I use to work for as digital printer that has a Xerox with a fiery front end. it was made for this. I forget what type it was (this was 4 years ago) but i'm sure if you look on their site they will have similar.

I used to work at a print shop that leased a Xerox docucolor 12. That printer ran day and night and did a good job, it broke down a lot but we used or over used it. I don't know if there was an inital set up fee but we did have to pay a per print fee of like 5¢. But all consumables, repairs and maintaince were included. If your going to do a ton of printing (10,000-100,000 Prints per month) this may be somthing to look into.

To answer your other question I think the Phaser 780 prints like 18 or 24 ppm color. I will try to post the sales brochure pdf tonight so you can see it.

The reason I bought it was for color proofs and ebay has all the parts up for sale all the time.

Can you flip the paper over and send it through that way for backside printing?
