Running Windows XP Professional.
When I ran the Service Pack 2 Updatemy Postscript Fonts are not recognized. I uninstalled the Update and the fonts are fine.

Any ideas what the problem is?

Service pack 2 is crap. It's a typical Microsoft product. Just uninstall it and leave it alone.

Sent you a PM.

I would personally get sp2 to work, it covers alot of security issues, and no matter what anyone tells you, all of my Tech friends love it to death, so plz try and get that to work.

As for your postcript fonts, you talking about the ones that come stock in c:\fonts? like your basic windows fonts? If thats the case I have some ideas on how to get around it.

My PC runs SP2 and the psfonts are ok, but then I have ATM Light installed. If you haven't already got it it's probably worth installing. Not that I know of any PSfont conflicts with SP2, but you never know, and I'm wary of Micro$oft's built in support for anything.

My postscript fonts reside in C:\psfonts\

I also have ATM.

Maybe I should try running the SP2 update again then use ATM to install my postscript fonts. Any other ideas?

Ahhhh ok, thought this was the issue....is the font in a zip file by chance? Try this either way and see if it works.

If the font file is zipped (you downloaded it from a font site) unzip it, make a new folder in C:\new font and extract the file to that folder. If the font is not zipped, simply just make a folder in c:\new font and copy and paste it into that one.

Next go to Control Panel>fonts>file>install new fonts. Find the folder c:\ new font and select it and/or the file. that should load the file into your default windows font set, you should now be able to see it when you start your proggies and be able to load it in ATM.

Let me know if that works out for ya

I have been using the postscript fonts on the computer with Window XP Pro with not problem. The problem occurred only after I ran the XP Service Pack 2 Update. Then the PS fonts are not recognized but all of the TT fonts show up just fine.

oh, thats your problem? thought it was just one font in particular, Do you have 'Windows Restore' on? if so I would try and roll back to before SV2, or do a whole fresh clean OS install with SV2 bundled on it. I have heard problems from people that downloaded the Update.

I can tell you that I installed SV2 on both of my machines with no problems, one with a download and one with a Disk and havent had any issues, maybe contact Windows or look for a forum dealing with the more techy side of windows....sorry I can;t be of anymore help...good luck.

I'm presuming you've tried re-installing the PSfonts in ATM since the SP2 Update? Does it just not find the files or does it come up with some kind of error? Or do they install in ATM, but not show up in any of your software?

Tried that.
Yes, it did give some error but I do not recall just what it said. I will return to the problem once things calm down around here and give you a more specific reply.
I appreciate your interest in helping me.

I Have the same problem....

Win XP Pro SP2 - with Adobe ATM 4.1 Installed

It seems that WinXP doesn't except PS-fonts, to be quite precise; WinXP only excepts TrueType

It's really bugging me and drives me mad....

Ah I've found it....
http://desktoppub.about.com/cs/fixfonts/ht/psfonts_winxp.htm

It occurs that winXp has it's own Type Manager...

Adobe ATM only will have a conflict with it...
Too bad because u can't de-/activate Fontsets in windows

So are you saying that I should uninstall ATM?

Then run the SP2 update?

Then install PS fonts through Windows?

i just unzip PS fonts to a temp folder, then open windows explorer and go to windows/font folder, then in the menu (file) is use install new font and navigate to the PS fonts, you can select one or all in the temp folder, it will copy them into the windows font folder. I have heard you can just drop them into the windows/fonts folder and it will also add them.

I don't use ATM, had to many problems with it.

Font Navigator 5, from CorelDraw 12 (no ATM). Works great with T1, TTF, OT. Super easy, super quick font management.

I see Bob Lanham suffering during the whole year 2004 with installing postscript fonts in his windows xp prof. As I see no real solution came up. My experience is the same. I have an original floppy with a post script font from some time ago but up till earlier versions of windows it worked with the help of ATM. ATM for windows XP is discouraged by microsoft. Finally I found an old version of linotype library installer. And surprisingly appearently windows XP accepted the postscriptfont, and it is now in the list of fonts in the fonts directory. However when I am in my word program I am not able to activate my postscript font and it is not appearing, so I can't make the choice for it. When I am in the font directory and click on my postscript font it appears on my screen, however only well in two sizes. the othere sizes are badly shaped. Printig this screen is going well. In the symbol of the postscript font [A] is an arrow. I don't know what this means. I have the feeling I am half way now, but don't know what to do further. Bob are you wiser nowadays?

I too have SP2 running now, and recommend it. I too have ATM (be sure you use the latest Deluxe version though, as previous versions are known to conflict with Windows XP's power management, such as hibernation and screensavers).

I always make sure ATM is installed AFTER any Micorosoft service packs or updates though.
