I know we never discuss books in here but I'm curious if anybody else has read this Stephen King series and what you thought about the final book and ending. /emoticons/cool.gif

It's not really fantasy. I guess science fiction would be the best catagory to place it in. It's pure Stephen King though. If you like his writing you will love this series, if you don't you won't. I'm a total readaholic, I read over a hundred books a year and if I hade to pick a top five books I have ever read this series (counting as one book) would be at about #3. /emoticons/cool.gif

I just started reading this series there Kool, just finished the first book. Good so far, just waiting til christmas to see if I get the next one (though I may not be able to wait that long...)
Hey Drorain, if you like those authors, I really have to suggest Terry Goodkind. Awsome writer. He is pretty new, and he is standing to be one of my favorite writers. Worth a read for sure! (Wizards First Rule is his first book)

I've been meaning to read the DT series. I have been a fan of King since I was 13 or so and read Misery for the first time. His memoir, On Writing, is probably my favorite of his.
I used to read a lot of novels, but for a while I only read books on Quark, Photoshop, Illy, Design, etc... Recently, however, I've gotten a little more time to read, so I may tackly the 3500 page saga of the Dark Tower.
What did you think of the ending, Kool, without giving anything away? Did it seem fitting after reading seven huge books to get there?

I've read 1-IV, but somehow I must have been sleeping when the next 3 (?) came out...
I'm a huge fan of the ones I've read, though. Kool, don't spoil the ending, but were satisfied with the way it ended?
Have the last 3 come out in paperback, yet?

Kool I saw that final Dark Tower book in the bookstore the other day and it grabbed my attention. You be able to give a quick breakdown on the series? I'm not huge into his horror books but I think the Shawshank Redemption was grand.

Damn I read that series so long ago I can't remember a bloody thing. 'cept a parrot and "Flagg"I think... Do I have the right books? I remember I liked it though. Wasn't there some tie-in with some Peter Straub books and didn't some elements of the Dark Tower series sho up in a lot of other King books? It'sall a blurr.
OK here we go. /emoticons/biggrin.gif
Jason - About the ending, all I will say is that Roland does reach the tower. How many of the rest of the 'Ka-Tet' reach it I won't say. What Roland finds at the top of the tower is not any of the things I expected. I was satisfied with the ending and as Stephen King himself says it's not about the end it's about the journey.
Delete - He wrote all 3 of the last books at once and released them six months apart over the last year. He got delayed in writing them by his accident. I'm pretty sure book 5 'The Song of Susannah' is out in paperback.
Eraser - If you liked 'The Shawshank Redemption' be sure and read the 'Green Mile' The Dark Tower is the story of four charactors brought together and set on a quest to save the universe no less. Sorry I know this is vague but it's a big story.
Keyare - No parrot that i can remember but Flagg is a minor charactor. The Peter Straub link you are thinking of was the book 'The Talisman' which he co-wrote with King. This book wasn't really a Dark Tower tie in but the sequel 'Black House' was. There are Dark Tower links all over Kings other books.
I love children but I don't think I could eat a whole one.
Read The House of Leaves
It is very very different never seen a book like it before, not just for the story which is good, but for the way the book is laid out
There is even a forum for this book
