Sister i color my artlines with Photoshop and with my Wacom tablet (Intuos 2 A6) i really dontknow what you mean with "the effect",if you can explainme it better i will pleased to help you. This coloring was really hard to do it was my first coloring work forUSA comicsbut i get a lot of work after this one. Ihad to clean all the lines... here is the artline: http://www.glasshousegraphics.com/creators/pencilers/adrianamelo/adrianamelopencil27.jpg

you have really talented coloring skills, sergio. i'm truly impressed.
as a former comic artist, i know how hard it is to find work in the industry.
sadly, the need for traditional colorists and inkers is dying as more and more pencils
are being digitally inked and colored. this is good news for you.
the best bet for you is to try companies like top cow and tmf and see how many openings there are for colorists.
i have a really good friend in arizona who is struggling to find work, she has worked on several books already
including savage dragon, super patriot, shadowhawk..but is unemployed. and she has a BA in art.
of course, her skills in no way compare to yours :)

Xosteve thanks a lot dude ;).
Really im working like colorist for glass house graphic http://www.glasshousegraphics.com/creators/index.html... im starting i only did 5 pinups (im waiting for 9 pages). But you are right the comic industry is good only for the publishers... im earning 2x o 3x only to do1 logo instead to color a fully pin up, really sad !!!!!
I think the colorist have a lot of works, now... you are right too. But there is very low budget (if you arefamous a artist i suposse its different).
Anyway i have in mind to go ahead with coloring comics, im 25 and i finish my studies of psicology 2 years ago, but i have to startto earn money so imopen to everything.
Well, and the best luck for your friend... we need all the luck of the world !!!!!.

Sergio Ordóñez (or anyone else) what i wanted to know was: how did you get that shading effect on the arm of the girl on the left???....i'm trying to colour in a drawing and i really need that sort of effect. i've attached a piece of the image i'm working on to help you understand where my problem is.....see the way it all looks like blocks of colour and not a smooth surface??

there are many techniques to do what sergio does, sister.
first off, you must start off with your base colors. these are called 'flats'.
then you work layer by layer, lighter and lighter until you reach highlights.
you can use the smudge tool, blur tools, but most of all gradients!
it takes some practice, but if you're looking for a quickie tour...you can find
lots of coloring help and tutorials on TEH INTARWEB if you search for the right stuff.
good luck :)

SISTER: I wil try to explain the way i work, really hard to explain it... http://graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/frusty.gif
Well, i think the most important thing is the a coherentlight source, you can practice with toys for example. At first time you use flat colors, after that you give the main volume and at last you give it shadows and lights.
Other important thing is choice the hardness of the areas of color, sometimes very smooth, sometimes very hard... its depend on the kind of material you paint.
For the color you can do it in this way (is not perfect but it works).
Choice a medium color for flat colors, then add a layer in multiply mode and paint the shadows with the same color, after thatadd a screen layer and paint the lights with the same color. You have to modificate the opacity of the layers to get the effect you want. You can add some touchs of hard light or shadows, too.
Let me know give you a sugestion... you have to learn what kind of color is good and what wrong, i think you colors are wrong... never use a pure blue, or pure green (if you are looking for a specific effect of course you can do it) but default swatches usually are not good to color.
Never neveruse filters, if you use it be carefully it could looks very amateur.

Sergio thanks your explaination was great....i thought colouring was much simpler, now i've realized that you need a lot of pratice and time. i'm going to keep the one i started as an example of what not to do!!
thanks again!
