Hey Folks,

I'm pretty new to print publishing and was wondering if someone could run down paper weights and texture terms for me.

For example, I see biz cards at 10pt and 12pt. Which is thicker?

I understand what coated paper is, and I'd like to get a classier textured paper, but I don't really know what to ask for. Is there a resource I can look at, or can someone define them for me?

Thanks!

Hi David, welcome to the forum. The short answer is 12 is thicker than 10. The easiest way for you to learn this is to contact and visit a local paper distributer. It's way too big a subject to try and answer in a post. They will have sample swatches you can take with you and can answer your questions. One of the companies here even offers a free one day paper school where you can learn why 20Lb bond is really the same thing as 60lb text and what this pound scale really means. Good luck. /emoticons/cool.gif
