Bladez

So, every now and then, an email comes through that I have absolutely no hope in reading, and it's getting annoying. Hopefully somebody here has some ideas as to WTF is going on.
I can read the header, to/from/subject all that stuff, but the body copy ends up looking like this:
http://homepage.mac.com/bladez/.Pictures/ewtf.jpg
Now, here's the screwy part...If I Reply or Forward it, THEN I can read it. But if it's something I need to print, I'm screwed because it prints like above.
We use Microsoft Entourage 2004 (on a Mac).
It used to be, it would only do this coming from 1 person so it wasn't that bad, as I didn't deal with them to often. Maybe once every 2 months. But today our receptionist sent out an email, and it came through like what's above. Only 1 sentence came through as it should have, in the middle of the email. Any clues?

I'm guessing it's a font issue. Do you use a standard web font for your emails? Have you changed your preferences to use a different font for reading emails?
Also that email was sent in July, so perhaps it's a paradox or some sort of temporal delay?

This has also been happening to a few of our machines in our office Bladez.
Maybe it's the Calgary bug?
lol.
We fixed this by a restart... It does seem to be fixed by upgrading to 2008 as well, but we can't do that in our office cause of costs and I doubt you can.
I have seen this on machines that have wayyyy too many emails saved in their inbox or on our main database without archiving anything.
If you archive and compress some old stuff (or better yet just delete a ton of stuff) and restart it should work again.
Bladez call me if you want to more about who's machine and what we did.

Restart doesn't work, as I turn my computer off at work every night, and it never changes anything. And I've got a grand total of 43 emails on my computer right now, and I don't save them to databases. I archive the ones I need to DVD.
And yea, Eugene, we just use standard fonts. Everyone else can read it, and I checked it on another computers. It's done in Times Roman. I haven't changed any settings on my email program in about a year.

Looks like a font issue to me.

I'm not saying this will fix it, but are you patched to the latest version. Entourage does some goofy things from time to time.

I dug around a little, and this may be the culprit (http://www.creativetechs.com/iq/garbled_font_fix_corrupt_font_cache.html).

this (http://www.macitguy.com/2008/03/ms-entourage-font-problem-in-email.html) may help as well.

the one it's showing isn't Times. But I checked the same email on my co-workers computer, and it is Times...which is why I'm getting confused, and don't think it's a font issue. Well, at least not a font issue as in "I don't have the correct font", but some other sort of thing.

SUCCESS!!!
Thanks for the link there Craig. Just had to go into my cache and delete "com.microsoft.browserfont.cache"
As soon as I got rid of that, I was able to read the email....
It wasn't interesting.

Font issue then or not? I'm still confused.
Well at least it's sorted.

We think it was a cached font issue inside of Entourage Eugene. Not an actual corrupted font, just the way Microsoft was bringing that font in via the cache file.
It appears to work kinda like preferences in Adobe, so when you delete the font cache and restart it rebuilds that file without the corrupt.
Make sense? (forgive me if it's still confusing I suck at explaining tech stuff)

Just to put my oar in - I get emails (but only some of them) that turn into fractions and work OK when I forward them to a PC. My eyes don't work either. . .

Dave - in my avatar? He's wearing glasses to cover up his secret identity. If he took his glasses off and revealed his true identity then everyone he knows would be in instant peril.

Man that top guy looks so mild mannered and dorky ... but Superman, wow ... he's cool and hip in his non-whitey tighties.

Don't ya just wanna beat up the guy on top? And from the looks of him (and his dorky glasses) it'd be an easy task too. 'Cause, you know...he CAN'T be superman...he looks nothing like him.
Craig B

Why would you even think he's superman. He's grade-a tool. He's vegeterian beefcake wannabe is what he is.

Yay! I'm using the same version of Entourage as you are Bladez, at least at work, and have had this problem as well. I thought it was font related, but had no clue about the .cache file and deleting that. I'm definitely doing that next time I see the occurrence. :)
