Welcome to the forum Goober.
When you get a chance, you may want to read the FAQ here (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=42). You may find this forum a bit different from other graphics sites you've visited.

The best site to put your work on is your own portfolio site. ;)
As for contests, you are looking for practice contests, right? Not speculative contests.

I think you'll find most of the pros here are busy doing real work, not contests, but maybe some of the students will chime in.

thanks -- I am a student myself. I hope there are more experienced students that chime in. I dont have any experience-- so for me i think a good place to start practicing will be design competitions-- get my work scene and fix my craft

You might do better to get yourself a subscription to Lynda.com or similar and work on some tutorials there. ;)

Hi welcome...

A good place to get some experience and to see what other designers are doing is crowdspring.com. Its a site where companies post logos and such that they need designed and ppl sign up to design it for them and you compete with other fellow artists for the job.

Crowdspring. The future of all graphic design.

<one can hope NOT>

If the OP is new to design, does he even know the basics of what goes into a good logo and the file formats it should be submitted in?

A good place to get some experience and to see what other designers are doing is crowdspring.com.

:rolleyes:

if you have the skills to do actual work try doing work for a nonprofit or interning somewhere. don't waste your time on or support spec work.

Only one I'm familiar with is *************.net.

Well, that got censored -- maybe it's for the best, I think it demeans the industry a bit ;)

Ah the online competitions where nobody actually wins.. they just steal the work they want and have somebody make it cheaper.
