Hi this is my design for an internet consultancy company, let me know what you think. I've provided two versions as alternatives to each other.

You may get more responses if you post the image itself instead of a link to it. ;)
Any additional information you can give will also help us critique this logo. What exactly does this company do? Who are they trying to reach? What kind of image do they want to portray for themselves?

Not sure what it is or what it says.

Here goes the image. The company does web design and development, and other related web services. Trying to reach all those needing a new website developed, a redesign, hosting etc.

The name is Dieci, I just put the 10 to enhance the graphic and also make it more obvioius that it means the number 10

I am confused as well.

I was having the same issue with reading the name, so I'd have to say that it's not working as well as you thought it would.

very confusing. . . the 10 doesn't help at all - maybe dots on the two i

I'd perhaps put the 10 outside the background. And change it so it looks more numerical.
DIECI is clear enough, but I don't know what that means. So you will probably need a strapline/descriptor to go witht the logo to make it clearer for people.

Dieci is "ten" in Italian. Which helps if you know italian I suppose. If this is geared towards a demographic that know Italian, they would probably make the connection, however if it's geared towards English speakers that connection is lost.

Even knowing it means 10, I'm curious what the company's name has to do with internet consultancy. I'm not saying it's bad or wrong, I'm just curious what the reasoning was. Sort of like why is Nike used for sportwear/athletics/etc.

Nike was the godess of victory :D (me smart)

Nike was the godess of victory :D (me smart)
That's what I was getting at Eugene. if someone didn't know about mythology they might not understand the reference. Likewise if someone doesn't know Italian they might not understand the name, however, even knowing it means 10, I still don't understand the connection.
And even then you might say what does victory have to do with shoes (yes, I know Nike is more than shoes.) That's the point ... what is the story behind dieci and how it relates to Internet consultancy?
Yossarian

That's easy. Dieci = 10 = 1-0 = binary = teh internet. :D
Craig B

Yoss. Lol. I considered the binary reference, but I really am curious what the OP has to say on the thought process behind the name.

It'd be scary if I'm right.

Unless the OP responds we'll never know. ;)
I was just thinking its "dicey" and in english that is not a good thing.

Put me down for the last two.... a couple of them in fact!
As for the logo, I am pretty much going to echo what most others are saying.
To take it one further, as designers we might be a bit quicker to put a connection together than the Average Joe Enduser; so if even we can't get it, then Mr. Enduser is going to be completely lost!

thanks for the comments guys, and sorry for not satisfying your curiosity about the name earlier on, had to go out for some time.
I am probably going to have a rethink about the name of the company itself, seeing that it causes so much confusion amongst people who are not familiar with the italian word for 'ten'. Part of our target market is indeed the UK and US so it wouldn't be very wise to start off on the wrong footing like that.
The reasoning for Dieci (10) is that the player wearing the number 10 shirt in football is usually the most creative, excellent player on the team, and those are attributes we strive to achieve when creating web solutions. So the word itself is not directly related to our business, but there is some thinking behind it.
As I said I am thinking about going for another name altogether, although we were quite happy with it and the curiosity it seemed to generate in our local circle, it might not work out so well in the long run. Do you agree with this? Thanks again

I hope you're referring to European Football....'cause that doesn't apply in the US or Canada

yes European football. So do you guys suggest I try to find a better name for the company?
the logo itself looks nice, but I wouldnt use it in an english speaking context. I got that it is 10 in italian, but english speakers will struggle with the pronounciation, let alone what it means. I think the link to football is a bit tenuous as well.
the 10 in binary isnt a bad tangent to explore, but I have the feeling its been done already.

Number 10 isn't reserved for the most creative player.
Ronaldo wears number 9 and he's the best player in the World.
Cantona wore number 7.
Italys best players were
Canavaro - 5
Maldini - 3
Zambrotta - 15
Del Piero - 10
Baresi - 6
Zola - 25
Certainly some creative players did hold the number 10 shirt including
Maradonna - then Ortega and some other players not as notable
Puskas
Lombardi
Bagio
Deyna
Pele
Messi
Are the only ones that really come to mind.
Ronaldiniho wears number 80 at AC Milan
And KAKA wears number 5
Generally Number 10 is worn by the midfielder who reorganises the midfield. Certainly some very notable players have worn number 10. But some wear number 13 (Ballack for example).
10 isn't a special number in football.

The number was just the general idea, as in Italy at least the number 10 is always considered to be a creative, inventive player and I like that idea for a web business. You are also right that the best player is not always the one who wears the number 10 shirt however.
Well unfortunately it seems that I would be best off looking at other alternatives for the company name, however I'm glad I posted on this forum as the feedback was a real eye opener for me, thanks everyone.

What number does Beckham wear?
as he is the only European soccer/football player I could identify that is my suggestion. ;)
I won't echo what the others said, except to say that I agree that it's a tenuous connection and certainly us North Americans will likely not get it at all.
hank_scorpio

At Manchester United
28 for 2 seasons
24 for one season
10 for 1 season
7 for 6 seasons
Real Madrid
23 for 4 seasons
LA Galaxy
23 for 2 seasons
AC Milan
32 on loan
But I wouldn't say he was creative. Over-hyped by media, good looking bloke that the british media latched onto. He was actually not wanted in the England squad at one stage as his performances were being lambasted so much.
I have much respect for his strength of character and he did step up when the time was needed. But he wasn't and isn't the most creative player. Good crosser and good at free kicks.
But my opinions on Beckham are neither here nor there or supported by the larger footballing community :D

I LOVE North American football.
Obsessed with the NFL and my Dallas Cowboys. (Yes they are mine I feel as though I am a part of them).
But gotta say European Soccer... just not aired at the right times over here or consistently enough to watch it and stay in touch. Though I usually try to catch the World Cup. Like that one. :)

Yes, my sister was in Vegas last week when Ireland played France and they were in a bar at 11.30 in the morning watching it.
Usually English football is on at around 3 on a saturday, which would be like 7 in the morning there. And the spanish football is on around 7.30 which is like 11.30 over there.
I wouldn't be able to live in America. I love football too much.

There's an Irish Pub here in town that I absolutely love, and they show a lot of european football. They'll open early on saturdays/sundays to show the games, and offer breakfast specials and such. A friend of mine is British and goes there all the time for breakfast and to catch the games. Legally they're not allowed to serve alcohol till after 10am tho.
