Advertising for Joe the Plumber, Free Ad space?

I recently moved back to a small town. There are so many entrepreneurs, small mom and pop shops, construction workers, painters, people like that, that are struggling in this recession, they just want some business cards and a flyer poster or whatever. Where are FREE places where advertisements can be placed???? I know one place Joe the Plumber can place his flyers, business cards is a laundry mat. Grocery stores are good, Joe the Plumber could use his own vehicle as a billboard. I am going to find every free advertising spot in this little town and create advertising campaigns. I guess I will talk to businesses and find out who has cork boards.:confused:

I've walked up to contractors while at lunch whose vehicles were clean, neat and well marked to ask them about their services. Carpenters and electricians mostly. I don't think I'd do the same for one of those little tear-off-my-phone-number posters on the Pizza shop bulletin board. That might be good for buying a piano, but professional services need to look professional.

I'd check to see if the town has an online resource for local businesses. Most do. Chamber of Commerce is a really good place to start.

Yeah, I agree. It's not for everyone. However, I live in a small town and some times you just have to make use of what's available. Maybe my work can look nice enough, so that it looks more professional. Yes, the Chamber of Commerce, you are right. They have a book on signage for the town. I was thinking, maybe I should find a way to tastefully erect signs in legal places, so that I can also appeal to the great deal of workers and mom and pops around here. I have two operations, one that is high end and one that is low.
