I've been implementing scalable content for a little while now, but when I considered just how many sites don't comply to scalable guidelines ... I began to wonder if those individuals who took advantage of it, actually use it. Wouldn't it be more appropriate if you were visually impaired, to lower your screen resolution the once? rather than continually click on 'enlarge text' links on websites, or change the font-size in your browser, and change your OS and software font size?

This would be the logical thing if I began to have visual problems ... but what do visually impaired people actually do to make their computer experience easier? as I'm sure they don't solely experience problems when visiting websites.

Any experience, or opinions on this would be most interesting.

I keep my resolution at 1280 x 1024 and that is perfect for design work and general computer work. When it comes to viewing text heavy sites like GDF I like to enlarge it so I do not have to be 3 inches from the screen to read it. Plus by keeping my screen resolution higher i don't have 3 inch icons & folders.......this way I can clutter my desktop with more stuff :)

I wish I had something clever to put here.......

on my p.o.s ibook, my res can only go to 600X800, these days im lucky if I can see 1/4 of the websites content without scrolling. my2cents.

I use 1280 x 1024 too ... and am happy at that resolution. I only change the browser font-size when I'm testing scalable content, but other than that, I keep my standard setting. I guess what I'm really wondering, is why would someone who can only read 60px text or above? only set up their browser to a comfortable level? wouldn't they also need the browser menu etc (beyond the web designers scope) to be of equal size? and their OS icons and software items too?

ha! if everyone was running 1 resolution on their monitor, anyone with photoshop could be a successful web designer!

i've given up on trying to design a site for a certin size. expandability isnt figured if you're doing everything css. i figure if they cant read the font, they can change their local styles to alter the page. if they still cant read the font, they should be using a screen reader, and advoiding the web the beast they can.

if a font size it too small on a website for me... i will typically just 'zoom in' by hitting Command, Option, and + or -

either that or i'll select the type and have my computer read it to me by going to Services>Speak All Text

what can i say, i'm Lazy... lol
