I can't think how best to do it whilst retaining the correct lighting.

I'm going to do it from the individual image that makes up this one, it's just this is the one I have saved.

I'd personally use the clone stamp. I ususally work by moving horizontally along an imave constantly changing the sampling spot so that you retain the shadows and highlights across an object.
Its just a matter of patience

lol rocketpig. the clone stamp and healing brush are used on a regular basis on my end. the healing brush is AMAZING with wrinkles.

Clone stamp....that's pretty tedious

I'd have marquee'd a section of the marker at the top and bottom. Feathered them...patched them together. Burned the shadows in. VOILA.

because of the angle and annoyingness of the little dotted gradient I would also use the clone tool or healing tool.

I like it but it didn't work for this, I had to select a tiny bit at a time otherwise it replaced it with the white background and the image etc.
