I just got a job as a marketing coordinator. I'm very much at the beginners level with graphic design. The two programs they gave me to use are Illustrator and Quark. I'm gonna be doing a lot of bruchures. Is Illustrator better for this than Quark? Can someone summarize what types of materials I would be better off using Quark for and what types of materials I would be better off using Illustrator for?

Ok, the best answer when you don't know, is to use Quark.
Use Quark for all docs with more than one page.
You can use Illy for single page stuff like one sided flyers.
Best bet is to talk to your printers or production people before you get too deep into Quark to find out how they want their files set up.

Like what pd said use illy for one page designs.......but for anything with mutiple pages or that has a decent amount of type, use quark. I find it to be a huge pain in the a$$ to format type in illustrator. Use illustrator for creating graphics or type effects that quark can't handle. If you are doing a lot of brochures - you will be using a lot of quark.
I wish I had something clever to put here.......

Please tell me you also have Photoshop so you can see the resolution and format of the images you will be putting in these brochures....

I have only used Quark a few times, and really didnt like it. At my old job we had it and needed it for booklets and catalogs. But now that I am on my own I have found that most of my printers are fine with me sending over Illy files per page and they just load them up accordingly ! I know this is the wrong way to do it, but I cant bring myself to buy Quark when I really didnt like it much! I am sure someday I will have to get In Design or Quark, but I am hoping it is not soon!

ID works much like Illustrator so if you hate Quark and love Illy then you would be better off to purchase ID. It's also very intergrated with PS and Illy.
