Hi

I posted this question previously, but due to the problems with this site on friday, the whole thread and my login got deleted.

I want to create a series of images for a client, which look as though they are reflections on the surface of water. For example one is of two men shaking hands. Obviously taking actual shots would be quite tricky, expensive and time consuming. Instead I want to fake the effect by using stock photography and commissioned shots, and applying effects to them. I need in particular a way of creating ripples in the image. It has to look good; photoshop's filters produce results that are no where near good enough.

One member very kindly offered to have a go. I don't know if you got anywhere before the post got deleted. If not I shall attach an image again. It's not very good quality I'm afraid, but it's only to give me an idea of what you can do.

Note to moderator: this is not me asking for free work, they offered!

Hi, I'm not sure what's happened to that guy, does anyone else know how I can achieve this?

Cheers!

I might put a partially transparent layer on top of the photo with some colour in it and apply those effects to that layer rather then applying the filters directly to the photo layer.

Match in the gas tank, boom boom.

Sorry for the late reply to your posts, I've been out of the office.
Cheers for that, I really appreciate you spending time to help.
They're good, but not quite what I'm looking for - they still look a bit like an effect as apposed to a real photograph of a reflection. Not putting your work down though, they're good!

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

no worries. i dont blame you for not liking it. i put it together in 5 minutes. seeing as it isnt really my project, i didnt put much of an effort into it :P just thought if i gave you a visual, then youd be able to narrow down what exactly youre looking for.

I took a shot at it. I am going to keep trying but let me know what you think. I will not take offense, I just thought it would be fun.

Now, I'm certainly no PS expert, but what if you took the photo, then put a layer over top of it that was actually a photo of ripply water, and reduced the transparency of the water layer instead of using filters and effects? Would that work?

Power to the Old Schoolers! and btw, if you can't say something nice, shut the hell up.

Thats what I did, just didn't look right. I used some masking and some different blending modes, the imiage I posted was the closest I could get so far. Still trying though.

Your right it does! It seemed like an easy thing to do when I decided to try. I will see what else I can come up with. So far I like my last one the most.
