A Mac for under 600! An iPod for under 100! Can't believe they actually did it. I sure wish I had a piece of their stock. Get out the new toys and let me know what you guys think...

Definitely going to get one of the new iPod Shuffles for Morea and seriously looking at the Mini Mac to compliment my PC. I always wanted a Mac and just never could justify over 2000 for one.

I know but I have expensive taste! This one isn't going to satisfy that expensive taste either. I want something along the lines of what Mickey just had IT order for him. Dual G5 with the huge monitor and crazy memory amounts. Like I said...expensive taste!

I think they will do very well with this tiny little mac. I watched the keynote this morning when I got to work, and I was astounded by the Tiger preview. Everytime I get mad that they're re-doing the OS again, I am quickly silenced when I see what they've done. The dashboard feature RULES!!

i agree JF this little thing can do alot and for that price your getting a good system, the only bone i have is the 256mb of RAM it comes with...that's a joke nowadays 512mb is the standard. I think there is only one slot for memory as well. other than that it looks like a good buy, plus the OS kicks...tiger is awesome

I did a custom price and found that the 512 to 1G jump in price was kind of crazy. Not sure why it jumps so much for just doubling the amount. Anyone know why that is?

Apple has always charged ridiculous amounts for their RAM, it's smarter just to buy the bare minimum and buy RAM on your own and install it yourself.

Maybe I could see 256MB on the Mac Mini, but 256 on some of the other stuff they sell is silly. I bought an eMac last April that came with that amount, and while OS X ran admirably, it would sometimes take about five minutes just to copy vector shapes from Illustrator into Photoshop. I bought some DDR RAM and bumped it up to 768MB, and no more problems. 512MB is becoming the norm these days anyway, it's time for Apple to bump that up.

I'm interested to see if Apple adds some 'media center-esqe' features to the next revision of the Mac Mini. What I found interesting is that their Mac Mini section mentioned that newer televisions were coming with DVI connection, which is 'indirectly' suggesting to hook the Mac Mini up to a TV. The only problem is overscan, much of the borders get cut off when a computer is hooked to an HDTV. Wonder if the Mac Mini (or more specifically, it's ATI video card inside it) takes care of this?

The only concern I have is that if I don't buy it full stocked the way I need (want) it then it will be tough to upgrade. The size concerns me. I know that the 'cube' they marketed for awhile was tough to upgrade.

Heard this morning that Apple's last quarter earnings were 74% higher than the one before. Damn! Wish I had some of that stock.

I hated that damn cube!! We have one here at work still...I hate that thing...LOL!

The mini mac looks kinda cool. Could be interesting but I definately think if you get one you should get it stacked how you want it!

I want a shuffle especially cause I'm taking the train to work in the mornings but no LCD is really discouraging me. I wish itunes could hook up to other Digital players.

I noticed that last night when I was home drooling some more. That seems kind of strang not to have at least something to view. It's also one of those games of you could have 4x's as much storage for only 100 dollars more with the iPod Mini. Of course I did notice the Shuffle has the advantage of a longer battery life. Shuffle has 12 compared to 8 for the Mini. Probably due to the lack of the screen. I still am waiting for my iPod Mini from Christmas that my bro sent (another story for another rant) and once I get that I will see, comparably if it is small enough for the gym and working out.

As far as the Mac Mini is concerned, I think getting it stocked to start off is my safest bet. I still can't get past the size. Things just keep getting smaller and smaller. Of course then the displays keep getting bigger and bigger. I can imagine a sweet setup would be that little thing hooked to the crazy 30' LCD! Dreams...oh dreams!

I bought my RAM at a local mom and pop computer shop in St. Peters, MO, many, many places sell good RAM much cheaper than Apple does. Even Best Buy, though a lot of times you can get it even cheaper at the mom and pops than Best Buy. Only thing to avoid is buying those 'bargain basement' RAM from unknown companies.

Trying to find out if the ram at Best Buy is compatable with macs, I have heard both ways so I dont know what to do. Spme say it works fine, and some say you can always get a memmry error and it doesnt work up to standard.

And the 20 gigipod are a much better deal than the mini, I received a mini as a gift, they are $250 had my bro take it back and get the 20 gig with his student id and it was only 20 bucks more, 50 if you dont have a student id, and way more storage than a mini

Both sides would be correct...one time I bought some cheap RAM from Best Buy from some company I never heard (this would be your bargain-basement stuff), took it home, installed it into my old G4 machine, and it didnt' recognize the RAM. Took it back, put a few more bucks into it and bought something else (I *think* it was PNY RAM), and it worked fine and dandy. Just remember that the RAM in Macs is no different than the RAM in PCs, just make sure you're buying the right type (I think my current eMac RAM was DDR PC2700 or something to that effect, can't remember the brand name though).
