Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : hmmm, logo A or B, help me decide ;)
hi everyone.
i am starting on yet another , "portfolio website" and i need help deciding which logo to use.
a or b
its gonna be called "eden" and i am going to work on a logo so i can make a comming soon page, cuase i jsut set up my own webserver and wanna use it, lol
anyways i gonna take some time on this one but please help point me in the right direction,
do you like the faded look (a) , of the bright look (b)
please point me in the right direction, i am not neccesarily going to use that logo but i was jsut wondering what kind of look is cleaner and best for a portfolio.
thx

I like the first one, but it is going to depend on how you are going to do the site also.
Not a fan of the small n think it would look better if you make it all the same size. The tracking and kerning needs to be played with a little bit.
'Some People don't know, don't know what is wrong, so there knee deep, knee deep in sorrow'
yeah, well my design isnt going to be completely normal, its going to be kinda interesting (im gonna try not to make it tooo abstract) im going to all out creativity. I will probably play around w/ this logo a lot, i just want to know what you all like best out of the 2 that i jsut posted, a or b. so i know what direction to go.
thx

Don't mean to be *****,
But I don't understand why this thread was necessary, 'B' is clearly more readable & vibrant & there is no aesthetical difference between the two anyway - besides maybe the slight thickness of the stroke. Logical deduction should tell you which concept would work best, especially in a case such as this. Once again I do not mean to offend, but usually when someone asks for an opinion or comparison of two concepts...their different. Any rational designer should be able to decipher minute characteristics on their own, and when the time comes for a comparison critique, it is between two unique concepts which have different design qualities (thus the necessity for peer evaluation). I’m just trying to help you...'grow up' a little as a creative individual - you must learn the principles of design & color theory so that you don't have to waste time inquiring about the obvious. It's a good start, but I suggest you create an additional concept that is unique from the first, that way you can ask for opinions & contrast with validity. Then we can help you improve on which CONCEPT, (& not which slight color variation) works best.
Also, is this a font, or a custom design? For if it's the former, I suggest you work on exercising your creative potential with a custom concept. Especially considering this is to represent your 'design' portfolio. You will feel alot more satisfaction in knowing that you created something dynamic & innovative over just choosing a 'cool' typeface. Good luck Liam, let's see some creativity!

Wow! For someone NOT trying to cause offense that seemed kind of harsh. Don't forget that not everyone on here is a seasoned designer. Some ppl on here are even young. Your points were good. I guess responses like that are what make some ppl tentative about asking for advise. Not trying to tell you that you did anything wrong. Just was a little surprised by your response. The advise is good. I guess part of it is, that I have been where Liam is and have had ppl tell me that I need to 'grow up' as a designer. That's just kind of a harsh way of saying that you are NOT experienced enough. Just playing devil's advocate on this.
By the way...love the avatar!
Liam - B is your best bet. I look forward to seeing how you progress with this. Good luck!

Take what you will from what I said Neuro, but thus is my perspective nonetheless. I am by no mean a 'seasoned' designer, im only 20 years old, but I can only hope & trust that Liam see's my comments as the constructive criticism it was intended to be. I wanted to encourage him to explore his creativity, unleash the spectrum of innovation that is to be expected for a personal identity and too create 'variations' to help maximize his aesthetical options. I'm an honest person & I don't like 'babying' someone of the creative discipline because it will only put them at a disadvantage. That being said, I sincerely apologize if I did offend you Liam, or in any way (unintentionally) discouraged you. It's just seemed that there was an obvious solution to your request, and it's something you must eventually learn to notice & amend on your own if you are to become a successful designer. I also felt that by limiting your second concept to only an (ever so) slight color variant, & stroke adjustment - you missed an opportunity to advance your creative aptitudes & potentially evolve a generic typeface into a unique & dynamic identity. Just remember that not everything so minute can be decided for you, eventually you must learn to amend such slight aesthetics on your own through a process of artistic principals, common sense & logical conclusion. So keep working at it, im eager to see where you can take this concept.
BTW - Thanks Neuro, my cat & the 'red x' are dating!

well, its fair enough for people to have an "opinion" it's really down to me if i decide to listen or not ;) but everyone should be honest, just saying that something is good or bad is kinda lame, you gotta voice your oppinion and to respect other peoples opinion (maybye yell if they wrong)is also important. but you can allways argue a point :)
anyways, i was just kinda posting the image to see if the faded effect looked ok (OTHER PEOPLES OPINION) i like b but i was wondering what other people think. and FYI i did draw that myself from scratch in illustrator why the hell would i post a "FONT" that is in two different colors. please dont take me for a fool. you said common sense would be for me to choose, i belive that wht other people think is also VERY important. you obviously dont have much common sense if you think that i just posted a font. GAWD!!!
anyways that is ok, just forget about this topic ( a mod can close it ) because i am going to work on a new concept w/ a different name "uber" and its gonna be a rounded design, i can see it right now, hmmmmm. its gonna be a goodun, but i wont be posting anything about it for a long time cause it still a concept right now.
thanks for your oppinions and if you are gonna yell and me and call me not creative, adn accuse me of posting fonts (someone elses work) as my own. rather that awansering my question, then just remember that makes me a little mad, i may not be one of the "big boys" but i been teaching myself for the last six years (on and off) and i have learnt that the poeple that give constructive criticism are the ones that know what they are talking about.

Out of respect for this forum, the rules & guidlines that govern it & pesonal courtesy - I will not respond accordingly to your comments. But for the record, I did not 'acuse' you of using a font, I simply asked if you had. Based on your previous showcase submissions you seem like a novice (a title, not an insult) and often novices create non-dynamic typeface based identities - hence my rant.
- I used up all my sick days...so from now on - im just going to call in dead.
LETS JUST FORGET ABOUT IT OK?!?!?
I will do my thing and occasionally post something worthwille, i think i gonna have to take another break from this forum, or i will just end up getting PO'ED , im sick of people TALKING DOWN to me, i know what level i am at and lets just leave it at that, i dont want people calling me (noobie, novice, youngun, begginer, or anything like that) we are all GRAPHIC DESIGNERS, and thats that.
if you want to respond accordingly you can PM me or e-mail me.... i would love to hear what you have to say (freedom of speech). anyways i dont like being mad, i very rarely 'freak out' but i am trying to work on a portfolio site and i am very busy w/ college and work... and it sux, then to have someone MEGA talk me down, just adds to the frustration. I wasnt asking about the design it was a simple a or b awanser, but as usuall it gets blown out of proportion and i get yelled @ . w/e im sick of this crap, i gonna do some solo design. if anyone wants to contact me you can jsut PM me, (doubtfull)
thanks to those of you that just said w/ design you prefered rather than bashing my creative ability.
later,
LIAM

Vwanga - Liam's reaction was my case and point. I just would have like to see something positive in your thread. Balance is nice when it comes to criticism. Give some good with the bad and ppl tend to not react badly. My point was not to get in a heated discussion about what you said. I just was hoping you would look at it from where you once were. It's never easy to put stuff out there and get response. Especially with the fear of being told it's not good enough. I am not saying you told him that but positive enforcement helps too. 'Babying' is not needed and I understand your concern with that. I wouldn't want that. It would give a false sense of acheivement. I guess the ultimate things is trying to find a balance. Hope YOU understand I was not trying to be critical of you but just was concerned. I have been where Liam is and have been burned more harshly than he just was. It's never fun. It's discouraging. As designers rejection is a part of our lives. It just can be more frustrating from a fellow designer.

I'm doing as Liam suggested and locking this thread.
I believe in constructive critisism and I'm sorry but comments such as what is written in this thread would have discouraged me and I have been doing this (out of college) for 8 years now. We have ALL been where Liam is now at one time or another. We simply do not want to discourage members of this forum from posting their work here to get good, constructive critiques and unfortunately that is what seems to be happening, and alot. We are not like the other graphic design forums where everyone is cocky and thinks they are the best designer there is...and that is what has always set us apart at the GDF from the rest. We are supportive, fun and give great advise with constructive critiques. Anything other than that just knocks us down to the level of the other designer forums out there and we don't want that.
Sure everyone needs a little push to get them to where we know they can go, but it can easily be taken too far.
