improve conversions from Quark to InDesign?

When I convert my Quark files into InDesign some images especially embedded images don't appear in the right place, text flow changes and weird characters appear? Can I do anything to improve the conversion process? Thanks.

InDesign does not even convert pagemaker files very will.......don't count on it

i've found that if you bin your quark prefs restart quark and then copy and paste the quark doc into a new quark doc save that and then open the new file in indesign helps with some things, one problem i have noticed is that text boxes created in quark can cause ID to quit if you select the text by clicking 4 or 5 times, if you do it more ID unexpectedly quits(this problem can be solved by making a new box and deleting the converted quark one).
