Hello,
I'm trying to create a document in Indesign (PC, 2.0) that contains black, and one spot color. I also want to include a gradient in it. However, the gradient turns it into a four color document, when i only want the one color. I've tried creating the gradient in the swatches palette,AND the gradients palette, and neither work.I've tried setting the stop color as a 0% tint of the pantone i'm using, instead of using the "paper" swatch, and that still doesn't work. My question is, is it possible to create a gradient in Indesign that doesn't make the document four color? and how?

Thanks, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, my Virtual Quick Start guide says the following...

'A gradient that contains two tints of the same spot color will be separated onto the single spot color plate. If you want the gradient to fade to white, create a gradient between the spot color and a 0% tint of the spot color.
You can create a gradient between two spot colors. However, to avoid moire patterns in the gradient, you must assign different screen angles to those spot colors in the Inks dialog box.
For instance, if you had a gradient of spot red to spot yellow, you would want to make sure each color had a screen angle that is 45 degrees differnt from the other. Ask you print shop for details on setting the screen angles for spot colors.
A gradient that contains both spot and process colors will separated onto both the spot and process color plates.' - Sandee Cohen

I think this sounds like stuff you have tried. It worked for me so I am unsure why it doesn't for you. Are you using specific pantone numbers or just 'yellow', 'red', 'blue', etc from the color pallete? If you are not using pantone numbered colors then try that.

Hopefully someone else might have more.

Thanks, CatsEye, that's funny. i found the same thing by sandee cohen when i searched this! I'm using a pantone from the solid coated set. I don't know why it's not working for me either. bah.
