Hello, having a very difficult time working with layers. When i open a picture in ps, it becomes my background. is that ok? how do i insert a picture or clipart to become a new layer? Do i open a blank page in ps first? but my import feature asks for a scanned image. tried and tried and tried. i want to put 2 pictures together some day.
thanks,
skunk
Hi valerey, welcome to the forum. This is how I do it. I will first create a new document in PS the size and resolution that I wish. Then I will open the photos that I want to combine. Each of the photos will be a background layer. Then simply drag the photo background layers to your new doc. this will create a new layer of each photo which you can then edit and arrange as you wish. It also leaves the original photos as they were so you can use them again. I hope I made this clear for you. Good Luck! <img border="0" src= "smileys/smiley4.gif">

There should be an option in one of the menus to insert a new layer too. In my version it's just Layer>New>Layer. Then you can copy your picture onto that. Hope that's of some help, I found layers difficult at first too but I find them a doddle now. Keep at it! ^_^
