Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : A little extra inspiration
I need a little extra inspiration. The brief is: 'Fusion'. That's all!!! The end point is a piece for exhibition but it can be in any format as long as it explores the notion of 'fusion'.
My ideas so far:
Family tree - illustration the fusion of people. Two people fuse and make more people, can be likened to the way particles fuse to make more particles of energy.
The Ford Fusion - An ad campaign for new car but with an interesting application linked to the process of fusion.
The fusion of seasons - The way the seasons fuse together and gradually melt into each other and change.
These are my 3 main ideas but I am getting really stuck and confused because the brief is so open, any advice/suggestions would be greatly recieved!

Hi. Welcome to the forum.
Maybe your difficulty lies in symantics? Fusion usually means the coming together of two or more entities to make one.
Family trees represent diffusion - a branching out, but gametes fuse to make an embryo.
Fusion energy is the joining of two atoms - which does give off energy but the fusion part is two atoms becoming one)

PD, I like where you're going there with that idea...
What I see when reading that.... is...
a sperm and egg conjoining to create LIFE... The ultimate fusion!
Just my 2 cents.

When I was studying, and got a brief like this, I usually started with the dictionary.
Dictionary.com supplied me with this:
'1. The act or procedure of liquefying or melting by the application of heat.
2. The liquid or melted state induced by heat.
3. a. The merging of different elements into a union: the fusion of copper and zinc to form brass; the difficult fusion of conflicting political factions.
b. A union resulting from fusing: A fusion of religion and politics emerged.
4. Physics. A nuclear reaction in which nuclei combine to form more massive nuclei with the simultaneous release of energy.
5. Music that blends jazz elements and the heavy repetitive rhythms of rock. Also called jazz-fusion, jazz-rock.
6. A style of cooking that combines ingredients and techniques from very different cultures or countries. '
My immediate thought was of nuclear fusion, lots of energy, electrons, neutrons, protons etc etc.
Sounds like a cool project though, wish I still got things this interesting to do now!

I call this piece: 'Fusion: pros and con'
And yes, I would like to thank the National Arts Centre for this $50,000 cheque. I deserve it.
