First time posting here!
Here's my question. I work for a company doing graphics and web design. If I were going to start doing freelance graphic work, could I use the work I've done for my current employer on my freelance resume? If I don't resell it and just use it for reference, I was thinking it shouldn't be a problem.
Please give me some feed back on what you think.
Thanks!

I do it all the time, how does you company feel about the freelance?
I work for an association as a staff designer during the day and do freelance at night, They don't care because it is not a conflict of intrest. And I am underpaid here and whatever they have to do to keep me on staff and happy they are will to deal with.

anything you did while working for the company technically is property of that company. If you just use it for reference and do not copy it exactly you'll be fine unless its a concept like a cartoon character.

you can use anything you've designed for a personal portfolio or references unless your employer had you sign something that wouldn't allow you to do it. it's a common practice. i haven't and won't work for a company that won't allow me to do so.
also, before you go freelance, make sure that your current employer allows you to do it. most designers stay away from projects that would compete with their current employers anyway, so your boss shouldn't mind. i'd like to add the you should not use any equipment or resources that your company supplies for your personal venture. that includes software. paper, printers, computers, etc. everything you do should be on your own time and not at work.
