too many different forums!

hey i think there are too many different topics/forums to post under here which is why i dont post here much. can alot of them be combined? like: off topic, general and soap box into one, techniques, issues and theory into one, etc etc. alot of these cross over into one another and could be consolidated into 1. anyone agree???

i just think everything could be streamlined and this would bring posts together instead of filing them into 20 different catagories.

I kind of agree.... One thing in particular I get confused on is when having a problem being stuck on a particular piece, and posting it for critiques, where do I put it? showcase? issues? links? I see these types of posts in all three of those forums. Ideally, I'd like to see ONE forum for feedback on underdeveloped pieces we're working on. So that if I need some ideas or want to help give ideas, I know right where to go.

Well, since no one else will answer this, I cant speak for everyone, but we have streamlined it alot since it first opened. We have had this discussion, and the problems that you guys are experiencing is because no one knows were to post.

As mods we try and stay on top of people posting in the wrong parts of the forum, but sometimes its just overwhelming loggin in and seeing 5-6 posts that are not were they should be, we also have to open each thread and figure out where it should go.

The ones we have the most problems with (and look, you got the right topic for this part of the forum) is: Forum Questions and Comments (everything related to the forum should be in here, including this post...good job) Off topic (just that...off topic) General (this could be combined with off topic, but this is where industry related questions go, as opposed to the goofing off part of the forum ie: off topic) Job posting (we have seen maybe 1-5 actual job posting, all the rest is leaches lurking for free work) Links (this should be links related to our industry NOT for us to look over your newest website) Showcase (guess what, this is were you put your new website links, and othe pieces of work you wish to show)

Those are the ones that have the most issues, imo.

D-Frag is right...also for some people who just come in to post one question bc they have a problem and have never been on the board before - they don't bother to scroll down and post in the appropriate section, pure laziness...they just post on the first thing they see...and then of course we have to find where it goes and put it in the appropriate section. Alot of people just aren't paying attention as to where something should go.

I really think we only need to lose the job and contest sections as they are leeches like D-Frag stated.
This forum works well the way it is and up until very recently, we weren't having all of these posting in the wrong section problems.

you could get rid of all the adobe, corel forums since you have a software one. i mean, look, quark has like 5 whole posts. that would be a good start.

gerenal and off topic could be combined into a 'lounge' because half the time our industry is goofing off and not on topic anyway. whos cares who's on or off topic anyway, its a lounge.

combine issues and techniques into 'technical problems and solutions' .. or something.

combine resources and links into one.

look at any other discussion forums, there are 5-10 topics. here we have 21! give it some thought, clean it up and make it more user friendly.

well you guys are complaining alot about newbies posting in the wrong sections. it wouldnt be such a problem if the topics were clearly divided into more general areas. you call the new users lazy who post in a wrong spot, maybe you guys are lazy in not rethinking a more effcient structure of the forum to prevent such things from happening.

We're talking about organizing the forum. Mac, if you have a problem with the number of areas here, then I suggest going through each one singularily, instead of bouncing around like a 24 cent super ball. If you've experienced forums that have only 5 or so areas, then they are lacking content. Any well established forum will have more.
