I wonder what the range would be and if it would run on 3G vs WiFi.....
... truly a firefighter at heart; I am already coming up with ways to use around the station and during an emergency....

Interesting...but it would be especially suceptible to updrafts. The operator would have to be adept.

Ironically we actually have three guys in the department who run RC helicopters; one who is actually a highly qualified pilot.
Anyway, a few weeks ago we went to a mutual aid structure (house) fire with another department. With the wild land conditions the way they are, our task was to work the numerous spot fires that cropped up as far away as a three-four blocks away (you'd be surprised how far embers will float and still be able to start a fire when they come down).
The first thing I thought was that something like this might have been able to extend our fire watch perimeter and keep an eye on thing from a higher perspective, sort of like a birds eye view.
