While we aren't a competition forum have a ball.
Don't be...um...surprised at the offerings you recieve.
There is more to being a 'great graphic designer' than Macromedia Fireworks.

Welcome to the forum. Look around, read the resource stickies, etc. etc. etc.

Actually the filters and layer blending effects in "Notepad" are far superior to those in Fireworks, as noted in several consumer reports studies. Although not as cost effective as either Fireworks or Photoshop, it gets the job done. You can access it's best filter by opening it and pushing "F1".

Seriously.

Rhodeder

Fireworks is just as compatable with any filters as notepad or photoshop. And yes i am serious as i will ever be i am proud to be a user of macromedia fireworks. No matter what in software usually the more you spend on it the better its gonna be and macromedia fireworks cost alot more than adobe photoshop. Now lets get this thing started. This is in no way competion between users but competition between software. So if i beat u dont get mad at me but at this wonderful piece of software i am using
; )

So if I spend $119 on Windows, it's better than the $110 Panther?
<sorry cheap shot.>
Any program is worth what you put into it.
And unless you find an impartial judge to sponsor this little dance, I doubt anyone will be interested in hearing your own opinion of your own work.
Just do me a favor oh master of fireworks. When you send something out for print, make sure it's in a format and resolution that will print.

That isn't a very sound theory Rhodeder. There are plenty of pieces of free software that do better jobs than software you'd pay for. Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware SE, AVG Anti-Virus are a few.

Also, Photoshop CS ($649) actually costs more than double what Fireworks MX 2004 ($299) costs.

Beat me to it, Ryan; my connection is the sh!ts right now. I have the links for the latest versions of each program, each the official retail...

Photoshop (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/main.html)

Fireworks (http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/store/index.cfm?store=OLS-US&view=ols_prod&category=/Software/Development/StandAlones/Fireworks#loc=en_us&rangeUpper=6%2C0%2C65%2C0&HTMLVerRedirect=true&returnURL=%2Fcfusion%2Fstore%2Fhtml%2Findex%2Ecfm% 3Fstore%3DOLS%2DUS%26event%3DdisplayProduct%26cate goryPath%3D%2FSoftware%2FDevelopment%2FStandAlones %2FFireworks&store=OLS-US&view=ols_prod&category=/Software/Development/StandAlones/Fireworks&viewName=Macromedia%20Worldwide%20Store&pageNotFound=0)

What 'notepad' filters is Fireworks just as compatible with? First of all, I was being heavily sarcastic on the Notepad reference...by Notepad I mean the Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad, the same Notepad that virtually every computer comes with, the same one you code HTML, XML, CSS, etc. in. By 'F1' I meant bring up the 'Help' menu. Maybe I was being too abstract.

Secondly, do you work for Macromedia? Honestly I see Fireworks as the equivalent to Adobe Imageready, the web image optimization tool that comes with Photoshop. I like Fireworks solely for it's 'seamless' integration with Dreamweaver, and by 'seamless' I mean it works like a charm if you don't make a minor mistake that f'cks up the entire project...Macromedia has 'seamless' issues between Fireworks/Dreamweaver and Freehand/Flash. Honestly, it doesn't matter what software you're good with, just that you can design effectively with it. So you're good with fireworks, great! That's what's important, what you can do with it. But some people prefer Photoshop to Fireworks since Photoshop is pretty much the industry standard. I don't think I've seen an ad for a job requesting knowledge of Fireworks and not Photoshop (in fact, I don't think I've ever seen one for Fireworks at all).

//Edit: That Fireworks link was making my me scroll too far, so I fixed it.

?

...or you could download a trial version (http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp#product=39)of it that gives you 30 days to try it out; may be a huge download, but what's smarter, spending more time to wait for a long download or shell out $649 for a product you've never used? And if it doesn't seem as good to you that doesn't "prove" anything except that you like Fireworks a whole bunch (I saw your one post on the Job board; we get it, you like the program); just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't better than Fireworks. Hell, I already "proved" that Notepad is better than everything anyway.

So let me get this again. You say Fireworks is better than Photoshop but you've never even TRIED Photoshop.
No wait, you said you were better at Fireworks than anyone using Photoshop.
Wait...
Now that you find Photoshop is more expensive than Fireworks that'll spur you to buy it just to try it out....
Hold on...
If you buy Photoshop and it doesn't work for YOU then it's only a waste of YOUR money.
I think I'm beginning to get the picture...

Surely this is all about personal preference? It shouldn't be to do with which software costs more, or that this program is better than what, should it? Having a rule that the more the software costs, the better the program is ridiculous.

P.S. I don't think anyone is going to enter your competition, because the rest of us know that Photoshop is better than Fireworks. /emoticons/biggrin.gif /emoticons/thumbsup.gif

The only time I use Fireworks, is optimizing my Photoshop work. In all honesty, Fireworks is meant for the screen. Have you ever used Fireworks for serious color correction. What about opening a 500meg file? AHH... Do you even know what DPI is? Adobe is Print, Macromedia is Screen. 300 DPI vs. 72 DPI. /emoticons/cheers.gif
