Making 'weathered' textures in Photoshop

Often see this kind of faded, weathered looking texture on text and backgrounds.

if your talking about the photo borders, you can do that about a million different ways. I will give 2 examples.

1. scan something like that in, I suggest the very top of a 40oz Paper bag...you know...the tall skinny brown ones they give you with your malt beverage at the store, yeah, the tops of those are really pointy, and can manipulated to your liking...scan that in, do some minor touch ups in PS, and walla...your there. and ya get a beer out of it /emoticons/cheers.gif

No, I mean the weathered look on the font, and you will also notice it on the background and on the yellow swoosh. Any ideas?

couple things to try:
1. Get or make some 'grungey' looking brushes, then radomly erase it from the image (or paint white)...
2. get a photo of something with lots of texture (i.e. a photo of just dirt, or the surface of a brick)
add a Threshold layer adjustment to it, then set the blending mode to 'screen' or 'lighten', then place it ontop of the under laying image.
