Ok, for a little background on the 'contest':

The criteria is original designs, 4 colors, black and white count, no copyright issues, blah blah blah...
Those are the basic parameters you have to work within.

Both designs are from sketches I did a while ago, but never really had a use for. As far as ideas go, I think they would make pretty cool t-shirts, but unfortunately I'm not the judge, so it doesn't matter what I think.

All the designs are basically judged by buyers and designers, so I figured I would post them here first and get a little feed back on changes I should make, or some ideas on how to make them look better.

None of what I have is set in stone as far as colors go, be it the shirt color, or the colors in the design, so any ideas you have that you think would make them better would be great.
And by all means, be as harsh as you want, because I'm sure the judges will be pretty tough to please.

Those arereally cool illustrations, I wish I could do someting like that.

Just some suggestion.

Can add more stuff? Words, backgrounds... stuffs that can make it more interesting?
Like maybea simple story of the guy with the mutant hands, and some strokes to emphasis the transformation of the robot?

I'd like to add a lot of things to both of the designs, but the rules are pretty strict.
The four color thing makes it kinda hard to get wild with it, but I was thinking about adding text.
Not a lot though, maybe a few words.

Maybe I'll mess with some motion lines for the robot.

thanks for taking the time to look.

you've got nice illustration skills, akewz... good job!

when I look at the image of the robot and the stereo I keep picturing little hearts around him like he's in /emoticons/wub.gif

just thought I'd share. /emoticons/biggrin.gif

Power to the Old Schoolers! and btw, if you can't say something nice, shut the hell up.

Thanks morea.

I think I'll try some of those ideas since i have until the first to submit the designs.

I don't know what to think about all of this indifference though.
So far, 45 people have viewd the thread, but I got two comments. Kinda makes me feel like neither of the design ideas are all that interesting. Which, if that's the case then I'll know not to waste my time submitting them.

I know personally I wouldn't wear the robot shirt, but that's just me.

Anyway, thanks for the comments. if I change anything, or use any of your ideas I'll be sure to repost them.

aww, don't feel bad. I posted up a piece I wanted some crits on a little while ago and ended up with 13 comments out of 168 views. http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/weep.gif

Sometimes people just don't know what to say. I'd personally rather see a few well thought out critiques than 40 or 50 comments that just say "nice"...

also, a lot of times I scan through the showcase while I'm at work and while I *try* to remember to comment on things when I get home, I don't always get to it. I think there are a LOT of people in that boat, too.

And finally, some people don't take criticism very well, so my guess is that a lot of people won't offer suggestions for fear that they will hurt someone's feelings, discourage them, or otherwise upset them.

And since I'm here, I should mention this... one thing that really seems to work well for these designs is that they could be printed on just about ANY color t-shirt and still look good.

I wish I had the skills to do illustrations like this.

Power to the Old Schoolers! and btw, if you can't say something nice, shut the hell up.

Another thing to consider as far as views go is that everytime you check to see responses it counts as a view and every reply who looks back to see replies to their replies counts as a view and every lurker who looks back to see a reply is a view and this post counts as a view and you're looking at it counts as a view. /emoticons/biggrin.gif

Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

You're absolutely right.

I guess it would do me no good to have a bunch of 'nice work' posts, when I really do want some crits... they don't even have to be well thought out either!
It's cool though, I wasn't expecting anything spectacular, it's just that I respect the opinions of quite a few people here, and I was looking forward to their thoughts before I submitted the designs.

I can't really blame anyone though, I never critique people's work, so I can't expect everyone to critique mine. I really don't know what I was expecting since this was the first time I actually put something out there for others to judge.

Anyway, thanks for the compliments, seriously. I'm usually very critical of myself and never really think my stuff is all that good. I think a lot of designers put themselves through that, some more-so than others.

The next time I see you post something looking for feedback, I'll be there.

Hahahha... good point!

Geez, I've been really sensative the past few days. Maybe I'm having my 'man period' or something.
I guess I should just sit back and see what comes of it. I definitely don't want pity crits... those suck!

*off topic*

Just a personal comment/thoughts.

I wanted c&c for my work because most of the time, I simply left out some stuff and made a few common mistakes (see my windzwerkz logo).
Guess it happens to most designers especially after spending hours staring at it.

PPl see things differently, designers should understand that more than anybody else. End of the day, the design is meant for general public. So it would be best if everybody contribute their personal comments (fat hope?). That I believe is the perfect feedback. Having a odd comment doesn't make you odd, just different, everybody is different. And a designer should know that as well.

is it that $2005 threadless contest?

i like the boy illustration better although it could be improved. i find robots are overused on tshirts. especially cute robots.
but i like that transformer robot of yours though... =)

eh?

I don't know if I'm gonna enter either of them in the Threadless $2005 contest, but I am going to submit them for the running contests they have.

I agree, the boy could use some cleaning up, especially arond the hands.

I'm glad you liked the robot for what it was. If it didn't 'transform', I would never even think of submitting it.

I like to make regualr things into robots sometimes when I'm bored... it was either this, or a dildo that turns into a robot -I think we both know that one would not be well received.
Maybe when I finish it I'll post in in the 'not safe for work' section.

Thanks for the input.
