guys, im thinking of buying these books:
Adobe Photoshop CS Classroom in a Book
Adobe Illustrator CS Classroom in a Book and
Adobe InDesign CS Classrooom in a Book
i dont really like to spend much on books, so just asking if these would be ok? are there better publications out there which are better than the ones im looking at? the total for all 3 comes to... £61.17
i've seen some other titles which are looking good like Adobe Illustrator CS Creative Studio and Adobe PhotoShop Creative Techniques...and i've heard but cant find thisPhotoshop Bible or something like it...
please help me buy the best books for my money, recommend me some booksor websiteswhere i can buy them for good prices, (the above is a quote off amazon.co.uk)
thanks!

oopsie... sorry, didn't realize.
check this thread: www.graphicdesignforum.com/default.aspx?f=36&m=19963 (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/default.aspx?f=36&m=19963) there are some good ones listed there.
some that I have found very helpful were the 'Sam's Teach Yourself (name of program) in 24 hours' series and the 'Virtual Classroom' series.
Hope that helps!

I have a problem :(
I want to buy Don Seegmiller's 'Character Design and Digital Painting', but it's too expensive for me.
Is there anybody who has this book in electronic version (please, write the link here or send it to i-design1@yandex.ru).

Quickstarts are good for the beginner.
But I always buy the Bibles if there is an option or a need. More info in them. But no real step by step tutorials.
Don't know about the Adobe Series. The programs come with a tutorial (or they used to.Not sure about CS.) so why bother?
PD is a grande format digital print dude. His advice/opinions may not apply to the 4color/offset/web world of printing

Weapon R, unless you can find them on a sale most of the books are sold for the price printed on the back - you could try the second hand books for sale on Amazon though. Another option is the local libraries here in the UK, you can usually log them out for long periods.
I am currently going though the GoLive Classroom in a Book and it is really quite clever the way that they are set out. 4 lessons with all the necessary bits and pieces on a CD in the back (probably why they cost so much...)
Did your programmes not come with a manual when you got them? (That is assuming you bought them the legal way) All of my knowledge in the beginning was from tackling the regular manuals - almost as good as the bibles.
okie dokie, the Visual QuickStart Guides it is... works out cheaper too.. hehe
i'll let ya know how they are when i get them, some time soon... hopefully!

Have you thought about doing it the old fashioned way and going into a bookshop? Then you can have a flick through them all and make your decision based on which you like from reading their contents.
Most university bookshops are pretty good at catering for these sorts of books - mine had hundreds.

i just got this book. what do you think, good buy?
so far, ive read like 5 pages and its very good. im starting to learn new terms and things that i never thought about before. got loads of images and things explained nicely. got like excersies to do aswell.
for some reason, at school they only give us projects to do, they dont give us any jargon or tutorials on graphic terms or how to use some of the packages. oh well, i can always teach myself, as i am doing now with illustrator.
heres a link, let me know what you think.

University bookshops are GREAT! Also don't forget your library. If you are at university, then the University Library will also have good things.
