First year student graphic design.. what do you think?

Hi,
This is my first year doing a graphic design course at school and the picture you see below is one of my first projects. We were told to make a poster anouncing an exhibition of our own work that we've previously made. I took a screenshot of a movie i made last year and put text over it. Not bad, but I thing that the image is not the better image that you could use there. The title is 'Organic Colour' and I see an explosion.

I see that you've squeezed the txts together to make the layout possible. Not sure if the actual one is readable, but bear in mind that the Information is always of higher priority than Visual Astectic.

Looks cool.
Can you try this for me? flip your background horizontaly, make the G in Goedhart touch your line in that you have in the middle there. Then the stuff under Goedhart, move and align it under Goedhart but along the line.

It's a nice grid structure, its just that your placement of things is just a little off in places. I'd go back and fine tune the placement (that's what the ruler in PS is for). The reason I ask to see your background reversed is that I think having more contrast around Goedhart would be better than having the contrast just around organic.

I don't have a problem with your text being tight. I like your idea as a whole. There is nothing wrong with bright and bombastic color, but if you're going to be bold, then go all the way with it. Your screen shot (colored smoke?) is somewhat faded against the very black text (which sticks out a bit) and the white text is a bit lost. You may want to tone down the black text, maybe picking up one of your background colors.

Thanks all for taking the time to look at my poster.. they're all good points that you make.
I'm gonna try to apply your tips such as flipping the image and playing with contrast etc. thnx :) I'll post some version up here again once i'm finished.

I really like the text placement.! But You could have used a different text effect and font. and mabe added soem effect to it. good job though.

I really like this layout. The placement of the text looks great, but the font is quite hard to read to be honest.. Not sure if that's down to the save quakity of the image, or if the font is supposed to be that rough!?!

Great concept though, it grabs your attention! ;)

I agree on the comments about the colours of the font. I like the Background but if you didn't told me it was coulered water ... i 2 would have made an explosion of it.

about the text ..... what i'm reading now is organicco our and j m Goedhart maybe put some horizontal lines in the bar to make it more like a letter ... a'm reallt crappy at explaining so i atached an image ....



This are minor things ... overal i like the design !!
