This logo is for a roofing company. It's justan initial idea and needs some tidying up, but my main concern is that it looks more like a mountain than a roof!?! I've thought aboutturning the outside arm of the 'X' into a chimney, not sure if that will work though...
The colours aren't set in stone either, i just threw them on to be honest. I keep leaning towards black and red with everything at the moment, so i'm trying to steer clear of those at the moment lol!
Any feedback would be much appreciated! http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/thumbsup.gif

I love the logo, but like you said, maybe more for a ski resort than a roofing company. I think it's a few factors that make it look more like a mountain.. 1. The white space above the letters and next to the x suggests snow imo 2. The color combination of white and blue 3. it's not perfectly symetrical (roofs are usually)...
maybe changing one of these can make the difference.

Yeah i think you're right about the white space, looks like a snow line... I think i'll either add a dormer or a chimney, or maybe both! hehe! Thanks jbg! ;)

I don't see the need to use the different typeface for 'APE' and 'X'. If you set 'X' to the same font as 'APE', the logo will look more rigid and less like a mountain.
I think that a roofing company logo needs more solidity. This is too much smooth.

Just my two cents, but I'd have used a heavy sans-serif or possibly block serif font. Having heavy horizontal lines and keeping the lettering roughly monospaced can help too. A couple of tricks I've used setting classified ads (ugh!) for builders and roofers. Curvy serifs and lettering, I find, never quite seem right in that kind of context.
The text for 'Guttering and Roofing Specialists' (Garamond Italic?) looks fine to me tho. =)
I would've taken over the world, but I got distracted by shiny things.
Ooo! Shiny things!

Thanks guys for the tips guys...
Apex is all the same font (Garamund italic). I'll try it with the dormer on, then move on to the next idea :D

or maybe reverse out the bottom text in a solid box of that gold color, then fit it within the A and X then bring the bottom half of your P up allong with the revesed-out text box.
i also agree about the different font on the bottom like Invader Xan said. good job though, i like your concept.

Aaaargh! This isn't going to be finished!?! The guy i was doing this for has just found out there is already an Apex Roofing in his area, so this little project is on hold 'til he comes up with another name lol!
Thanks for all the help anyway! ;)
