Hey everybody,

Been reading this forum for some time now and finally decided to register. Just wanted some critiques on some business cards that I'm currently working on for a client. I'm pretty much out of ideas that I can do to make it better, so if anybody has some constructive critism that would be great. Thanks ahead of time for those who help.

A little information about the cleint. It's for a Christian singing group and they want to stick with the colors black, gold, silver, or white.

i like the Forum4.jpg one the best.
i'm not sure if i like the black, it maybe too dark for a christian group... too bad they don't want royal blue, cause that may look cool wiht that gold.. :/

nice job though, like the direction.

thanks for the reply silence, i agree with you and like that concept the most out of all of them. i'm attaching the orignal color variation that i had originally had, but i had changed the colors once i found out what colors they preferred. hopefully they change their minds and let me use it.

I think the blue bars and the typography must be more thiny.

I personally like the first one in Forum1. It's soft, and harmonic.

Forum2, at first glance, I thought it was an eagle, looked more like a biker business card with the black and gold. works with the blue though. But what REG said, the lines are a lot thinner looking.

the first one i forum one resemble muslims rather than christians. i like forum4's design better, although i think the text is too overpowering. maybe try a different font.

If your just starting, I think you need to go back to do some sketching and get some more ideas, I dont think the colors fit. If they want thoose colors just work on a few different opitions of those color.
Work on a few more different layour styles, I dont hink it is fiitting the christian topic.

I am kinda confused on the logo to, are you designing the logo also? why does it change?
keep it comming, youll get it

Thanks for the replies everybody, I really appreciate them. And to answer your question TBdesign, yes I am also designing their logo. This is just the first part of the media kit that I am trying to put together for them. I do agree with everybody about forum4's font choice of impact and the bars being a bit too much, I'll be sure to change that. Anybody else have anymore feedback?

If your doing thier logo to, It would be best to get that down before you go into anything else, because the logo is going to have to work, on business cards and othe r stationery, brochures, direct mail, web, presentations, etc.
Start sketching and get a bunch of ideas then narrow that down and go to the computer.

yeah I didn't grasp first off that it was a christian org., because i just clicked without looking....color change helped tho now I think it could use more contrast somehow...it looks washed

Just my frank opinion...

I)
What are the criteria given to you by the client? Just the few set of colour you must use?

Your cards basically has two main info.
1) The word 'Hope'.
2) The card holder's information.

It doesn't not say anything about singing.I belive most ppl would mistaken it to be a counselling organization if shown without explaination (I would). The word 'hope' is the clue.

II)
Personally, I don't think the colour black and the word 'hope' blends well. Hope is something bright. Your cards is a bit towards the dark/dull side. Are you intending to use metallic col for the gold on this card?

--------------------------------
Ya got a lot to consider since you're going to handle the media kit as well. It ain't easy but the rewards are definetly worthy. Especially good for your portfolio.

Keep going Inonamebrandl, don't settle for less. Expect the best!

Yah, only set of guidelines that I have from the client is the colors. However, I think that if I can show them a solid piece, I might be able to change their minds.

I'll talk to the client and see if I can add some text to relate it to their singing.

I think that I am going to stick with the gold color, but try different color variations to replace the black. I like the idea of the metallic for the gold. I'm pretty lucky considering that I don't really have a budget to stick with so if anybody else has any other recommendations or ideas on the type of material that would look good, that would be great. Thanks again everybody.

My only beef is that the bird is a little funny-and-evil-looking. Other than that, it looks spiffy.
