Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : photoshop grouping and moving
In p-shop, i like to link layers so I can move groups of objects at once. the shortcut for this is shift click, just like in Illustrator, but here's the problem i'm having. holding shift while moving an object in p-shop moves it in a perfect straight line, holding shift and clicking on a grouped object un-groups it from where it was. so i'm finding it hard to move a group of layers in a straight line, unless i make a guide and follow that.

As TB says, link the layers together to get them to stick.
When you've chosen one of the layers you need to move, click the box next to the layer visibility on the other layers you want to link. You should get a little chain link appearing in the box. When you've chosen all the layers you need to move, using shift will let you move them in a straight line. When you want to unlink the layers again, just click on that little box on each layer and they will unlink.

Right, but here's the problem. you can either link layers by clicking the symbol, or shift/clicking on objects in your image, as long as they are on sepperate layers.
Now here's my problem, when i go to move a group of linked layers in a line by holding shift, whatever i grab (because i'm holding shift) gets unlinked.

Wow, that was so easy, I guess I'm just so set in my ways of how I iniate a keystroke I never assumed the order in which it's done would make a difference.
Thanks
