hello there.
I am designing a logo that I can put on some packaging. I have designed the logo using corel painter 8. Now the problem I have is that the logo has a white background, thus whenever I insert it onto anything, the white background makes it look out of place.
I need the background to be transparent so I can place it anywhere I want.
Failing this, maybe there is some way to crop the image so that there is no background.
Please help I cant find this anywhere on the tutorials!
Thanks
Joe

have you tried saving your file as an eps, or a postcript? I dont use corel so this is a stab in the dark.

Doign the logo in painter is a mistake.
But I think they have layers dont they?
Just delete your background layer

there is no way to my mind to delete the background layer. The canvas layer has a padlock on it.
I have no idea how to do this!

thanks for your help. Basically im not a graphic designer but im setting up a business and trying to save money by doing all the graphics myself.
I have photoshop so can I import a corel GIF or other such image format into photoshop, and then make it transparent for use on a website or package? I dont want there to be any decrease in quality- that is essential.
Thanks

If you didn't create it at mega resolution you will lose quality when enlarged to go on the package or even on the sign on your office door (if you decide to do that).
And you certainly DON'T want to be saving you final logo as a gif for any kind of printing process.
Please read this thread from our resource section and reconsider your efforts to save money.

I know I'm supposed to be nice and all but I'm not feeling very nice today. No offense to the fine designers who are trying to help this guy.
Let me see if I have this straight from all the posts on this throughout the forum. You decided not to hire a designer to save money, money that our brother and sister designers rely on to feed their families. You hold us in such contempt that you figure since you have MS publisher & painter you can just do it yourself. Now that you have done just about everything you could possibly do wrong in creating this logo you want us to share our hard earned and expensive knowledge with you. For free!
Here's a little free advice. Hire a designer. A properly designed logo will save you way more than it costs in the long run. /emoticons/cool.gif
Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

LOL!
I was trying to be subtle, Kool.
Cuz I'm in a good mood today.
Maybe a little too subtle.
But that was my point as well.
I can't even imagine what the default resolution of Corel Painter is but I bet it isn't good. And now that the image is a gif, unless it's saved as a copy in a better format the logo is now garbage anyway.

Heh heh, I know you were PD. Everybody was all day. Come on you pros, you were all thinking the same as me right? /emoticons/biggrin.gif

'Hello?'
'Hi Doc! Listen, we've never met but I understand you know a lot about brain surgery.'
'Uh... yes. That's correct. I'm a neurosurgeon.'
'Well, since I can't afford to hire you for the brain surgery I bought this book about veterinary surgery at a garage sale yesterday, and I was wondering if you could walk me through it.'
'Hello? Doc?'
