First and foremost, glad to be here. It's good
to know there are outlets for those of us not
learning in a classroom any longer. I work in
the printing industry and do some freelance on
the side.

My latest project involves doing a sign for a
friend's new pub he is opening. I'm thinking the
sign will be a standard sign with flourescent lighting
between two panels. The lettering will be
embossed.

My question is this:
Not being overly familiar with the sign-making
process, do I create the file with the embossed
filter(Photoshop/Illustrator), or is that left up to the
sign-makers?

Sorry, one last one-how can I change the colors
of my text when I apply the emboss filter?

Thanks,

bwilder

I would recommend doing it in Photoshop, just make sure that you work at 150dpi or higher at least, you will have to do this for the emboss as Illy has horrible embossing capabilities.

As for the color on your emboss, you should be able to change the text color at any time in PS until you either A. flatten the image, or B. rasterize your text.

Good luck, get back to us if you have any more problems. And welcome to the GDF /emoticons/cheers.gif

Will depend on what the sign is going to be made out of. And what type of embosing you are looking for.
If you find what you are going to do with material and etc. call the sign place and see what they want. I have ddone a few and they just wanted the Vector outlines of the name. Some are very picky on font use, some are not, but you will probably have a extra charge for a uncommon font.
