I created a document with ID CS at school last quarter. I have 2.0 at home, and have the CS-based file on my hard drive here. Of couse the CS file isn't backwards compatible to open up in 2.0 and resave accordingly.

Basically, since my computer is recognizing the file as an InDesign file do you think I could toss it onto my jump drive and take it back to school? Sounds like a dumb question, but will my computer be able to write the file to the drive even though it doesn't have the version that the file was created with? When I was organizing my school files before the beginning of this quarter I pulled it off the drive and tossed it into my ID folder, totally oblivious to the fact that it'd probably be a good idea to keep a copy in a neutral medium like a jump drive.

I might be needing to pass the file off to my school for printing, and better get cracking at redoing the document if I can't get the CS files to work any more.

And touching on that, how would one go about locking a folder in a drive so that the folder itself cannot be deleted, but the files within it can be modified and deleted? I'm a Windows-based lifeform. I should make a folder of documents that I don't have the software at home for. Live and learn, eh?

Shellebelle - you should be able to copy that file onto your jump drive with no problems.

On a PC I'm not sure how to lock the folders and such. I'm sure someone will be able to answer that for you tho
