I dont drink the Dew, so I can't tell ya how accurate it is. If you did that background in Illy, good job.

yeah, i did the whole thing in illy. it was good practice of using the special effects. (i'm not quite as good in illy as photoshop yet) w/o the layer blending options was the most difficult thing, but it was fun trying to figure out how to get the right effects (the textbooks helped for quick reference) im pretty please w/ the final result, could still do w/ some imporvements but the deadline was today and Graphic Design is all about having a product done by a deadline and finding a finnishing point (even if the work is never finnished) but it was a great project for practice on illustrator which i am pretty new to. all your critiques are appreciated ;)
ill post the original scanned image if i can find it

in illustrator i drew the vector shapes, then applied the folowing effects (they had to be in the exact order as well)

1st... Gausian/Motion Blur Effect
2nd.. Artistic Film Grain Effect
3rd.. Opacity adjust to varios settings 30-70%
it took a lot of playing around, but I am starting to find that you can do a lot w/ illustrator that you can do w/ photoshop, its just that it is a little more challenging and different ways to do things ;)
oh and illustrator is still not the best tool for 'PhotoGraphics' lol

yeah, i feel very fulfilled after this project. it makes the whole class worth it (INTRO to computer methods)
this is my very first GD class that is an intro to Photoshop (done) , Illustrator (done) and InDesign/Quark (starting) . The amount i have learnt is tremendous. Although the name of the class is Intro, i have learnt some pretty advanced stuff because it has given me 2.5 hours twice a week to explore the software. and i had been using photoshop for over a year and i still learnt from the class. My next class is 'Creativity: Concept Development' that is gonna be AWESOME, it starts at the beggining of march, ill probably have loads of projects to show you then ;)

Nice work - could you maybe post it as a pdf so we can zoom in to see the background detail?

You know, there's like a butt-load of gangs on this forum. This one gang kept wanting me to join because I'm pretty good with a bo staff.

Now try making your own Pop, juice, water or whatever label, start sketching and thinking ideas up.
Throw it on a pop bottle, shoot some photohgraphy shots, etc.
Put it in a magazine layout, billboard, etc. will then have a nice portfolio piece.

AWESOME IDEA.!!!!!
my graphic design teacher said that this project should be the first in our 'new' graphic design portfolio. But for copyright reasons, ect, i dont think it would be a good idea, i think i will go w/ your idea and think of a new packaging label for myself and i can even use the mt dew label as a template for the 'nutrition infomation' ect. ill do that when i get roudn to it, i am also trying to learn some interesting 3d effects in illy. thanks for that idea ;) ill think of it as a project given by you :) and i will post it when i am done.

Good work! :tumbups:

If it's for personal portfolio, I don't think you should worry about copyright issues.

However, doing a personal label would be much more effective as it's fresher and has a higher chance of getting surprises.

Dont worry about it being a project given by me, We had to do it years ago in school, We had pop bottle label, cereal box design, and a few other packaging things to do.
Yah for personal use you will not have to worry about copyright issues, but your own design will be much better for portfolio use, half the stuff you do right now will not be in your portfolio anyways versus the future projects you will be doing in your following years.
If you want to get further in depth with the label, search goverment guidlines on Nutrition labels, the leading and kerning are set to a certain spec, same with the upc, it would help for a good explination of the piece at an interview, especially if it is for packaging.
