Very interesting indeed, Kool. I see big things for the future of this little Mac. I wonder how many years in advance Apple is working in their labs right now? We're seeing the product for the first time, even though it had to be researched and developed for probably a few years. He's probably already signed papers to get the whole movie download thing rolling...

I've never thought of Apple as transitioning to a music/media company, I think of it in the way I'm sure they do: iPod is a Trojan Horse (god, I've been using that phrase a lot today). Apple did a lot of harm to their reputation in the early 90s and the public simply has adopted a 'Mac sucks' attitude simply because they heard it off of friends. (I was this way as a teenager as well, until I ACTUALLY USED one.) It's quite amazing how many myths PC users still believe about them. But anyway, the iPod is a hit and people are feeling warm and fuzzy about Apple. Since a lot of people hate their own computers with all the spyware and crap out there, they're looking to switch to something else, and that's where Mac Mini fits into the fold. From there, perhaps they'll move on to one of Apple's real big boys (like the G5 or the iMac) in the future.
Now everyone talks about the Mac Mini being a great media station, but I want to know one thing. Whenever you hook any computer to an HDTV through a DVI cable, the screen has 'overscan' (the edges of the desktop stretch past the screen). Does the Mac Mini compensate for this? On Apple's Mac Mini website, they loosely mention hooking the Mini to a DVI connection in an HDTV but give no real specifics.

Political incorrectness reinvented.
This was the part that really got my attention:
Imagine a Mac Minicluster running Apple's xGrid software. Start with a 16-port fast Ethernet switch and stack 16 Mac Minis on top. That's a 720 gigaflop micro-supercomputer that costs less than $9,000, can fit on a bookshelf, and can be up and running in as little time as it takes to connect the network cables. High schools will be sequencing genes.
Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

'Here's my thinking, and it is just thinking -- I have no insider knowledge of Apple's plans, I haven't been diving in any Cupertino dumpsters, and nobody who knows the truth has told me a darned thing. I think the Mac Mini is a fixed component in a system that will extend iTunes to selling and distributing movies.'
good article but this makes no sense, buy this just to watch movies and itunes, it is just thinking but you can do that with comp.

In response to the movie perspective from the 1st article, could we see an iFilm, or iFlick, or iMovie (portable movie device) sometime in the future? Something similar to an iPod Photo on steroids? Can you imagine a handheld movie player that will fit in your pocket? Waiting rooms and long lines will never be the same again.

Interesting Postscript:
Only two of Apple's 98 U.S. retail stores had the new cut-price Macintosh computer in stock in recent days, according to Gene Munster, a financial analyst with Piper Jaffray. Combined, those two stores had just three Mac minis in stock, Munster said. Meanwhile, the average waiting list for a Mac mini at Apple's stores has 18 people on it.
Additionally, all of the stores were sold out of Apple's new budget-priced iPod Shuffle digital music player. The average waiting list for the Shuffle was 120 people long, Munster said.
I should have kept my apple stock......I bought it right after 9-11 for $14 per share and sold it earlier last year for $32 per share....its sitting at $72.30 right now........DOH!
