This is for real and offered by Quark.

www.quark.com/partners/certified_expert/requirements.html (http://www.quark.com/partners/certified_expert/requirements.html)

For fun, try the sample test. I think it gives the same questions to everyone.

Don't cheat. Close Quark before taking it and see how this test can trip you up. Things you do automatically are very hard to answer as questions.

This test is only good for Q6 or 6.5. You will get the answers wrong if you are only familiar with an earlier version. Things have been moved around in Q6 (who would think to look in Layout for the Doc Setup???)

I started the test, then realized I don't have the terms, headers and menu names memorized. As you said PD, it's things we do automatically.

For once here's a test that I can tell to kiss my ass and I won't get a failing grade for it!

EDIT - I only got 50% of the questions correct...though I don't think that's a good indication of my ability with quark, considering I've been using it for about 5 and a half years now...though quark 6 and 6.5 for maybe 5 months.

I wonder if there's a practical part to the exam as well.

Multiple choice testsare usually based on memory retention anyway. This looks like a money grab for quark to lure people into some silly certification that will get them nothing. Although, if people are moronic enough to pay $169 for a test from quark that basically gives them zero additional skills, then I suppose Quark is one up on us.

The more I think about it...who really looks at those boxes and such anyway? I can't remember the last time, except maybe in college that I actually had to stop and look at the windows.

I got 60%. But I can tell you the keyboard command for baseline shift. Alt+s, then b. I didn't see that on any quiz. /emoticons/bootyshake.gif

Debz, the idea was not to post the questions for those that want to take a chance.

LOL, Mag. I ain't gonna tell you what I scored. Who looks at those header names anyway? I know what palette it's on, I open it, I use it. Why memorize this crap?

I'd like to see the full test just for yucks - but not for $169. Did anyone check out the list of experts? Not a whole heck of a lot of states represented there...

You bet it is, who cares if you are certified or not... It surely does not mean you can design worth a poo!

I'm still curious about the questions.
Because there was that one that specifically asked about minimum bleed, I'm wondering what other qualifications Quark thinks are necessary to earn Expert status. As a printer, large format or 4-color, I might be interested in a designer who could pass this test - if the right pre-press questions are on it.

'expert status' should mean that you know the in's and out's even if you are a designer to know pre-press..

I had that prepress class last semester in school, and i'll tell you theres stuff i NEVER would have thought of, things i just didnt know how to do at ALL! w/o this pre-press class. So i would say yes a designer should know that pre-press stuff. but u prolly already think that and were implying that but i felt like sayin it anyways :)

BTW: got that answer right i was excited.. lmao!

Congratulations!
You have successfully passed the sample exam with a score of 90%!

I wonder what the rest of the test is like...

PD make one up, I would like to take a stab at it. make on up and just save it as a pdf or something for people to use. Alwasy looking to keep my pre-press knowledge up and learn more. Sometimes I can be involved heavy in it and sometimes I wont have to touch it at all.

70 percent, not bad for someone who hasnt used it in about 6 months

Heh... 50%.
I've never used any version of Quark higher than 4, and I've hardly used that since last April.
Maybe I should grab a copy of v6 from somewhere to play around with...

I would've taken over the world, but I got distracted by shiny things.

Ooo! Shiny things!
