I'm about to sign up with a host to eventually upload a portfolio web site. I was going to go with www.(lastname)designs.com with my last name before the 'designs' But then I thought that might not be a good idea for various reasons, and maybe I should just go with my whole name, like www.(firstnamelastname).com

Anyone have any opinions? I'm probably just putting too much thought into this.

You want something easy to remember, And I dont know if you have done it or not but check it out it may already be taken

none of the options I want are taken, so thats a good thing :)

My last name is 'Lohrman', which is uncommon, but not hard to remember.

Because I'm not really freelancing aside of one-off stuff for friends, I left the business-y part off of my URL. It's simply my nickname that has stuck with me since my little brother couldn't pronounce the first part of my name. It's easy to remember and say since it's similar to my real name.

You want something that's descriptive and is about you, but don't paint yourself into a corner with a certain domain you're quite fond of.

One other thing that popped into my head is that once I'm freelancing more I'll likely know how to properly set up a webpage. My domain 'supporter' (Yahoo!) allows for HTML, so I can redo the whole thing in HTML, or start fresh with a 'business' name as the domain.

Lots to think about.

The hosting deal I'm doing is for one year, and the website will probbaly be up about 10 months before I have to renew the domain name and hosting service.

So I'm definitly not stuck with whatever I choose. Although I don't want my business cards to become obsolete

I don't really have any nick names, at least none that are appropriate :)

Lohrman design, I like the sound of it.
I have about 50 different ideas in my head for a logo design
That name has so many options, I say go for it

Thanks, I'll probably end up going with that. I looked up www.MichaelDesigns.com and it was already taken, I definitly would have went with that.
