I don't know much about London or the schooling over there but I would look into graphic design schools you could attend and learn the programs:

Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign,
and Quark Xpress

and search this forum for more info on this topic, there is a lot.

Some advice (since I have an eMac too), first thing you're going to want to do for the eMac model is bump it up to 512MB of RAM or more, Adobe CS programs are not always fun with a mere 256MB. But once you do that, it's like gravy.

since he is new - and I am new (thought not a cadet's age) - just to say hello to all of you...

about me - wouldn't dare to call myself 'a designer' or anything near that....work in CS (illustrator, PS, InD - Mac) and Quark(PC)....
Once had a problem with Quark (not enough memory to save a document) and suddenly had to redo everything from scratch in InD on Mac I've never used before....
about this 'not enough memory' - since then I haven't touched Quark:))but have to do it - will be back here surely if the problem persists:))

anyway - thanks to reading the forum till late hours - I slept in today......but I have read a huge chunk of your posts, checked some of the links etc etc etc....and found it really helpful - so I am back to look at/watch pros:))

I don't see why not. Don't expect G5 performance or anything, but the 1.25Ghz G4 is a very capable performer. The Mini should be fine if you already have a monitor, keyboard/mouse, etc. But the RAM is key.
