Illustrator CS extrude & bevel producing color change

I've notice that when I apply the extrude effect in Illustrator CS to an object it slightly darkens the color. In this case, I've extruded some outlined type 3 degrees on the X and Y axis. My workaround is just to copy the original text and place it on top of the extruded so that I get the intended lighter color. Is this just a nuance of the filter that you just have to live with or am I missing something really obvious.

What' really cool is trying to spec colors for one of those puppies.

Get what you get,
or Expand it, Separate it, Clean it up, and apply real PMS colors.
